How do I find a doctor to work with me on the B1 supplementation? I see a nutrition pharmacist every six weeks. He uses muscle testing to determine the supplements I need. He's determined I need B1 at a thousand mg a day. I'm not on any medication but I've developed a problem with my hips and my leg. I may need a hip replacement. Can't determine why I can't sit for any length of time without my quadriceps tightening up and my legs feeling very heavy. I'm not bothered by standing. Just recently laying a certain way in bed causes a similar problem. I spend most of the day standing or laying down. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm seeing a surgeon tomorrow. I'm hoping you're going to answer the question about the sitting issue as it affects getting in and out of bed, up and down off the toilet, in and out of the car, getting up from a sitting chair. I don't know if that's related to parkinsonism or not. Your thoughts. Thank you
Have you been diagnosed Parkinson’s?
Not necessarily the hip itself. Could be sciatica or stenosis. Make sure you get a correct diagnosis before you agree to surgery.
Sometimes those sorts of hip and leg problems can be helped with gentle Piriformis Syndrome Exercises (stretches). The "gluteal stretch" is helping me with similar sounding symptoms.
A good physical therapist could help.

That link is for some stretches/exercises. I do just the one for the glutes.
Thanks I. Want to avoid surgery at all costs.. could this be a complication of parkinsonism?
It's my husband who has Parkinson's but I know of several non-parkies who have this syndrome. And I've known many non-parkies in the past with the piriformis spasm contributing to the pain you describe. Seeing a physiotherapist could really help. You could get some deep tissue work and expert advice on doing stretches/exercise for it. Unless you do a lot of body work yourself you know.
Just saw an orthopedic surgeon. He referred me to a neurologist to rule out Parkinson's. He described it as muscle rigidity. I said it only occurs when I sit and goes sometimes from the back to my toes, causing cramping and numbness and heaviness. He wasn't concerned about the muscle tear or the arthritis. What meds do they use if this is Parkinson's. I find it odd that it occurs when sitting and recently when I lay a certain way
