Hi everyone - I'm a YOPD PwP and new to this community, initial symptoms started in late 2016. Diagnosed PD in beginning of 2019. I had constipation problem along with other PwP symptoms. Since beginning of 2020 I included millet seed powder (boiling the powder in water and mixing coarse brown sugar for taste) every morning empty stomach in my daily diet. I noticed improvement in my constipation within a week. I still continue taking it and I no more have constipation. My other PD symptoms still persists and progressing especially the tremors of hand and leg. At least I got rid of one symptom, i.e. constipation and thought of sharing it with this community. Thanks.

Hi there,

I'll give it a try as constipation is a major symptom of mine. How much millet do you have per serving?

Thanks

Hi DJSa - I mix one teaspoon of millet powder, half teaspoon of coarse brown sugar (for taste only but you don't need to include it) in about 20oz of normal water and bring it to boil till it becomes thick. I take this drink in the morning empty stomach. It helped me in getting rid of my constipation. Please let me know if you need any additional info. All the Best!

Hi Painty - Thanks, I take Figs occasionally. I have been taking Thiamine B1 for about 2 months but haven't seen any positive results yet. Started with 1000mg initially, now I take 500mg daily. Tremors, muscle rigidity and slowness in movement have been my main PD symptoms lately and I am eager to find relief from these PD symptoms.

I thought I would pass along some information about a simple cocktail that helps relieve constipation for my 73-year-old PWP wife. Every morning I mix one capful of MiraLAX plus one heaping teaspoon (about 13 grams) of Mannitol USP plus the juice and rind of 1/8 of a large fresh lemon into 12 ounces of cold raspberry tea. Note that after I squeeze the lemon juice into the tea I drop the 1/8 lemon rind in as well and as I add more tea during the day I leave the rind in the bottom of the cup. Naturally check with your doctor before trying this, but it has worked very well at making my wife’s BM regular. An additional benefit is that it also seems to have helped with controlling her UTI.

Interesting that you should mention millet, which is one of my favorite foods. I eat puffed millet cereal almost every day. It is one of the few grains I can tolerate.Millet is a good choice for anyone trying to reduce inflammation by removing foods containing lectin from their diet. In all my many years of eating millet I have never thought about its effect on my digestion. A standard daily dose of propylene glycol (MiraLAX), along with good sleep, seems to keep my digestion moving right along. Sugar is also on my list of inflammation foods to avoid. I have always had a craving for sweets which I try to satisfy by using Stevia as a sugar replacement. There is more and more science every day in support of the idea that in many cases PD starts in the gut and that an imbalance in the bacterial environment of the gut is to blame. Sugar it seems is right up there with antibiotics in wreaking havoc in the gut.

Glad to see that works for you. Welcome to one of the best forums on the planet. As well as Vitamin B1 , some respond well to Mannitol, which also helps with mood and constipation. Given that you are in the US it might be cheaper to try Mucuna. I also find that Melatonin (10 mg per night for me), is beneficial. Magnesium Threonate is also recommended by many. If you have memory problems then low dose Lithium Orotate (about 10 mg per day) is also worth trying (though I keep forgetting to take it. Lol). Spend some time perusing the forums, you might find something that helps you substantially. For some, given the right supplementation, exercise and medication PD hardly seems to progress at all.

Hi Alexask - Thank you. I have been taking Thiamine B1 for about 2 months but haven't seen any positive results yet. Started with 1000mg initially, now I take 500mg daily. I also take Mucuna and started taking Mannitol recently (about 10g daily, since 3 months). Mucuna helps me a little with my tremors for a short duration. I haven't noticed any benefit from Mannitol yet. Tremors, muscle rigidity and slowness in movement have been my primary PD symptoms and I am very eager to find a natural remedy to get relief from these stubborn PD symptoms. Thanks again for your concern!
