After my stroke in 2016 I fought back with Tom Balchin's book and was doing really well (2 mile walks etc); then heart failure, then op etc. Now I don't know whether I'm on foot or horseback! On good days I can walk quite fast on soft ground, then next day I'm very wobbly indeed, and slightly dropping my right foot. Why no 'progression'? I'm full of determination but don't want to waste time on exercise programmes which wont help ME. (I've tried Tressor, Phinney, Feldenkrais etc etc). Can you help please? Hope this makes sense.

Help! Can any one recommend a foolproof balance exercise for me: 12 months since big heart op, followed by PD?
Have you tried walking sticks?
that's interesting - isn't it like going backwards? What size sticks?
For people who are shorter than 4' 8", we generally recommend a 41-inch stick. For people who are shorter than 5' 4", we recommend a 48-inch stick. For people who are between 5' 4" and 5' 11", we recommend a 55-inch stick. For adults over 5' 11", we recommend a 58-inch stick.
Walking poles improve balance and stability. Walking poles help you maintain proper posture, especially in the upper back, and may help to strengthen upper back muscles. Walking poles take some of the load off your lower back, hips and knees, which may be helpful if you have arthritis or back problems.
Try B1 HCL. Also how is your Vit D? I assume you are on blood thinner, so B1 can be problematic here.. take due approvals from your Neurologist and heart doctor.
What is the book title?
Vit D okay, I'm trying B1 - looks good for my tremor. Are you suggesting its contra indicated with anticoagulants?tom Balchin's book has just been updated - it was a bit of a doorstop but wonderful for me. There are DVD'S and home visits with his team if you want (before Covid) I' ll send you a link.
Neurologists! They - sorry HE has got hundreds of patients at present, all waiting for appointments, heart surgeons in my area have been doing strictly virtual because of Covid in the local hospitals. So this forum is a Godsend in a diminishing world.
