Hi all, and thanks in advance for everyone’s willingness to share.
Does lifting weights help with the issue of decreasing hand and arm strength, especially in the hand with tremor? Any other ideas to improve hand and arm strength? Thank you.

Definitely. Weightlifting, chin-ups, anything you can do to put those muscles to work!
You can benefit from exercising all your life. If you have cramps and tremor like I do I would recommend that you do your exercises when you are best medicated. If you are really weak you can start with squeezing a soft ball 1-3 times a day. Do it until you are really tired in the hand and stretch out the muscles afterwards.
If it takes too long for your patience change to a harder ball. Of course there are special equipments too to buy but balls are cheap.
And if possible, get out there walking like JohnPepper describes.
Absolutely heck yes, work on your core first up would be my recommendation
Hi, maybe here you will find something interesting.
is it possible to get a copy of this video
Hello, you have Alex's videos on YouTube and also on his site. Lots of useful things. Alex has been living with pd for 13 years and looks great thanks to exercising diet, and stress-free life. In my opinion, this is a formula for a good life, especially for pd .
Here’s his channel on YouTube and his website.
Helps a LOT with weakness! The more I lift regularly the better strength and mobility I have- When it's more difficult to weight lift on tremor, left side, I push through it and after it feels great- I even think it helps with tremor. But more important is just plain cardio exercise like speed walking as hard as u can . Check out John Pepper's info.
cross train at high intensity and try to do at least 60 mins daily.
PD is a movement disorder so the best way to deal with it is to move. The more you move the better for dealing with your symptoms.
Walking is underrated, but I doubt that it will do much for hand or shoulder strength. Pull-ups (aided at first), push-ups, bicep curls, speed bag and heavy bag workouts will add strength and the last two have a multitude of benefits.
I didn’t think it was possible to get my arms and hands back but doing weights three/four times a week for a full workout has really paid off. I am no longer fragile or weak and my hands can do things with strength and purpose.
What’s a good weight to start with? Thanks! Connie
Hello Connie! I am not qualified to advise you but I started by following a trainer on YouTube (and I use his App), which is something you could do too. Make sure when you start your search that you word it to indicate clearly that you are new to training with weights. Do let me know how you get on.
Thank you WB! I notice my arms are much weaker in my off times especially if I’m having a bad PD day. I’ve been thinking weight training might help!
