Jaw tremor help

Hi,

For anyone that’s experienced jaw tremor can you tell me how it started out? I am undiagnosed but have some issues of concern and the jaw is one of them.

Mine is not visible but if I close my teeth together (loose or tight) I can feel my lower and upper teeth sort of vibrating against each other. When my jaw is at rest I do not notice this or really feel anything out of the ordinary. It’s usually worse in the morning after waking up but generally does this throughout the day when I concentrate on it. I do have periods where it does not happen though.

This has been occurring for at least two months.

Please tell me your experience with jaw tremor and if what I’m describing sounds familiar.

Thank you

"Zinc and copper deficiencies are well-known causes of tremor and workup always includes levels of both. Low-frequency tremors can sometimes be seen even with normal blood levels of these elements. Supplementation can help to resolve tremors at best or prevent an increase in its severity."

Also consider B1, magnesium, calcium, etc. as potential culprits.

Thank you for the information and I’ll definitely give it a try and report back.

I’m still hoping for some replies from folks that have or did have jaw tremors for comparison purposes.

You're welcome. Consider adding quercetin to help with zinc absoption. Consistent exercise is also highly recommended. If you have a tendency to bite down hard on your jaw, also suspect TMJ disorder.

Sounds very familiar. I have had this happen off and on over the years. It is really relatively inconsequential compared to my other Parkinson’s issues. So I don’t think about it much. When it abates I don’t always notice. For what it’s worth, I am being treated for Parkinson’s and Lyme disease and sleep apnea. I often wear an “oral appliance“ at night to prevent my tongue from falling back into the airway and causing a reduction of oxygen in the brain. (This is not a CPAP machine, something more like a splint that people who grind her teeth wear at night.) Reduction of oxygen can damage or kill brain cells. So you might want to have a dentist or sleep expert rule out apnea. It seems to me that there could be a number of different causes of teeth chattering. Tiredness, magnesium deficiency, anxiety, shortage of oxygen, TMJ issues, etc. Probably good idea to see an integrative neurologist if you can find one. It may be something you want to nip in the bud.

Thanks for your reply bcowart, I really appreciate it.

Next time yours come back to visit will you let me know if it stops momentarily when you clench your jaw? Mine do not as I can still feel the teeth sort of vibrating against each other. I’ve read everywhere that PD tremors are resting tremors which makes me think mine could in-fact be due to another issue like you suggested.

Just curious regarding your Lyme treatment as I was also diagnosed and treated for Lyme with antibiotics and herbals a few years ago and shortly after diagnosed with PD. Would appreciate if you could share details of your Lyme treatment as I am considering to do it again.

Hi Yardimatt,

I was referred to an ENT specialist who recommended an exercise for jaw tremor whereby you open your mouth wide as you can, slowly, without over stretching. Then slowly, you close, taking care to control the "close" until your lips touch again. There is a natural reflex to shut the jaw closed almost at end . Just be aware to stay in control of the closing until done. This practice has really helped me.

There are just so many issues for we PWPs , so many theories and such a lot of studies to examine

Stay well. Stay positive. Stay safe

Thank you for your responses!

I’m still trying to figure out if it stops when you close/clench your teeth together. Since it sounds like you have this issue will you let me know if it stops momentarily when you clench your jaw? Mine does not as I can still feel the teeth sort of vibrating against each other. I’ve read everywhere that PD tremors are resting tremors which makes me think mine could in-fact be due to another issue like you suggested.

How did yours manifest itself in the beginning? Did it start slow and progress? Can you make it stop by holding your jaw closed/teeth together?

Sorry for all the questions but I’m just trying to understand if I’m experiencing typical jaw tremor or something else.

Thanks again.

Does this sound like jaw tremor? I close my mouth, teeth together, and feel like my teeth are moving/vibrating against each other ever so gently. Nothing extreme and not visually noticeable (yet?).

Thank you

Just hoping someone with jaw tremor can tell me if your symptoms are like mine or different. It sounds like some of you have it but I cannot get you to describe it or compare it with what I’m describing and I’m not sure why.

I have an appointment with a neurologist tomorrow morning and would like more info.

Thank you

I get that same feeling with my jaw. Sounds very familiar. Get a DAT scan if it is covered by your insurance. Then they can see if you have less dopamine in your brain.
