Anyone has tried HIFU High Frequency Ultrasound for tremors? What is the approx. cost in USA? How do we get hold of a movement specialist?

Hi there to All! I am actually based in UK-England - although I have registered with healthunlocked-Parkinson movement - to virtually support my ex-husband and friend who lives (on his own) in San Pablo CA.He was diagnosed with Parkinsons recently. I want to than you all for this very helpful, well informed and heart felt community. My warm wishes to All.

Yes, the FDA has approved FUS for both PD and essential tremor and is available in the US. You or he can call your insurance company and ask them if they cover it. If not, there are about a dozen locations in the US that are conducting FUS pallidotomy trials for free. Go to the FUS foundation website or go to clinical trials.gov for locations.

Will the US do the FUS trial on none US citizens for free ?. I was led to believe it is around $35k for one side. Is it true most neuro's will only do it one side.

The swiss surgery PTT is $35,000 and can be done bilaterally. The US is trialing pallidotomy which can only be done one sided.

just be careful. My neurosurgeon told me that FUS destroys brain cells so if they dont hit the right cells you have then lost brain cells that cant be replaced, He says its too risky for the brain but useful in other areas.

That’s why they use Ultrasound to focus on the exact area of the brain.
