Rytary vs Sinemet

Has anyone compared these name brands as opposed to comparing generics? I’m going to switch from Rytary to Sinemet. For me , Rytary is bad news. Afraid it would cost me my marriage. Good C/L 50/200 is N/A in the PNW. Gotta go name brand in my opinion.

My dad couldn't tolerate Sinemet. Now on Rytary. No side effects so far, but does nothing for his tremor.

Why couldn’t he tolerate Sinemet?

Thanks, I understand. That was aimed at Sinemet.

I’ve been on both. Rytary is control release, I’m assuming you’re considering Sinemet C/R? Both worked well for me, as did Sinemet immediate release. I was on Sinemet IR for about 3 years, then my MDS switched me to CR for about 2 years. My dosages were high (between 2 and 3 grams a day - as needed) and still weren’t working 100%. No side effects for me. I’ve been on Rytary for the past year and am once again over 2 grams. Only side effect is minor reflux at times. Only drug that kicked my butt was Nupro (patch). It worked AMAZING but I literally spent about $300k in 8 months. That one was prescribed between Sinemet IR and CR timeframe. Rytary is a higher copay for me vs Sinemet.

What side effects did you get from Rytary that you’re hoping to avoid with Sinemet?

Neupro manufacturer supplements cost for me, as does Rytary. Have you looked into? I am in the US, not on medicare.

Thank you for the reply. When I began recognizing a pattern in the evening of feeling over-medicated, over-amped, edgy, easily agitated. My wife was seeing my personality change but the next morning I would be my old self but keenly aware that the previous night my conduct was unbecoming. It felt like the Rytary was stock-piling and all was releasing at days end. That was verified by my neurologist. He called it “Stacking”. Beware.

Wow, definitely not good. I do notice Rytary doesn’t always release when I expected or needed it to or it feels like it never got me fully “on.” Brand name Sinemet released very consistently and fully for me but wore off rather quickly (the CR).

To clarify, I think you meant that you spent all that money gambling or something else. Not on the medication, correct?

What strength of the new Pro are you on? We have been on all dosages, and have some extras. They are expensive! Our current neurologist believes that they can be contributing to aspects of dementia, hallucinations which we are experiencing. We went from 6 mg to
