Last night I randomly tried a melatonin and was woken up by my alarm for the first time in years. Usually waking at 5 am.

I feel great!!

Last night I slept well and past 4AM!

Took my liquid melatonin 3 times 1hour apart leading up to bedtime. Had some tea and substituted ā€œSleep Thruā€, homeopathic product in place of valerian root. Liquid melatonin is Whole Foods brand ā€œ365ā€. ā€œSleep Thruā€ is brand name also purchased at Whole Foodid on sale for $14.95.

If the two of you decide to try it, let me know how it goes. Good luck.

Magnesium helps with sleep. I take capsule, 400 mg Magnesium Taurate, about 3 hours before bedtime. There's a magnesium powder (not taurate) Calm that you mix with water as well.

Dr. Mischley told me to take Melatonin right after I wake up early in the morning to help me get back to sleep. I take 1mg only......more Melatonin makes me too groggy. I bought the 1mg at Whole Foods. I take magnesium, Vit D and Vit K2 at night.

I drink organic tart cherry juice before bed, it has natural melatonin. Sometimes I take regular melatonin before bed, .3 mg, others take more. The body gets use toit, so take it every other night.

Also,, google foods that promote sleep, that's how I found TCJUICE.

Try to stay away from products that have diphenhydramine. There's increasing evidence that it's not good for anyone to take on a regular basis, much worse for us PWPs. Many common sleep aid medications, like Nytol, Advil PM, Tylenol PM, Benadryl, etc contain diphenhydramine.

I've had very good results with a sleep aid called Alteril, which is a blend of melatonin, glycine and l-tryptophan, and a proprietary blend of GABA, skullcap root, camomile, hops extract and passionflower. It's available OTC at drug stores and places like Wal-Mart. It was recommended by my doctor, and for me, it works far better than melatonin alone. The recommended dose is 2 tablets, but I started with one, just to gauge the effects. Turns out that the half dosage was just right. Not a bad price to begin with, and I get double the doses for the money AND, most importantly, a good night's sleep with no morning-after sluggishness. For reference, I'm a 165 lb male. Good luck.

I forgot to point out that I received some advice from Art aka easilly on taking Melatonin once an hour 3 times (hours) before bedtime. I also take valerian root capsules 1/2 hour before bedtime as well as Sleepy Time tea Extra which has valerian root in it as well. Some advise no drinking before bead. That is up to the individual. I donā€™t dispute this at all.

The hourly approach works well, but I havenā€™t solved 4AM wake up problem. P

Taking melatonin using the "one, two three approach" has worked for people that were taking just one melatonin but did not help at all with sleep. You just have to remember to start taking it two hours before you plan to go to bed.

Yes. I discovered this personally. Remarkable. This product I just used twice so far is working. Kind of shocking. Been trying so many different approaches with very little result. Then boom! Melatonin 3 Step (I switched to liquid melatonin) gets me to sleep and 1/2 hour before bedtime I take ā€œSleep Thruā€, a product sold at Whole Foods and manufactured by ā€œGaia Herbsā€ in North Carolina. Primary ingredient is

Ashwaganda

Although I didnā€™t see it, I heard the

New York Times has an article saying that its time for Big Pharma to have itā€™s Big Tobacco senate hearing. This could be big day for those of us that deal with the inconsistencies of quality and cost of prescription meds.

The hearing is tomorrow 2/26/19.

It is not Parkinsonā€™s specific, but the list of questions reflect what many of us need know.

You may also find it helpful to wear one of those fabric sleeping shades that are like glasses made out of fabric and block the light out completely. The fact that you respond to the 123 melatonin way of taking it, would tend to indicate that your melatonin production may be low and not be reaching a peak around 1:00 am, the way it is supposed to. I believe the 123 method acts by trying to somewhat replicate the natural melatonin rise as the day turns to night. The blackout night shades help your body to "believe" it is night time and time to go to sleep plus it may help to improve your natural melatonin production as it was intended to be. Led tv's and computer monitors and lighting in your home tend to trick your body into believing that it is still day time and this may partially shunt the natural melatonin production cycle and interfere with your sleep cycle.

Thank you Art,

I can report that I slept for about 7 hours last night. Fabulous! Did wake up for approximately 45 minutes, but the next thing I knew, my alarm came on. I believe I mentioned that I happened across a product named ā€œSleep Thruā€ (homeopathic). I take it 30 minutes before bedtime. The skeptic in me is still alive and well, but it is basically thrilling to get 7 hours sleep.

Encouraging my system to produce melatonin via 1 2 3 makes sense.

Thank you again!

The thing about melatonin is that the potential health benefits from it are numerous and broad ranging! It is very inexpensive and can potentially lengthen your life span (telomere lengthening) while protecting your brain, liver, kidneys, eyes and more while acting as a potent antioxidant, radical scavenger and as a recycler of other antioxidants as well as the bodies own potent antioxidant system! There are literally thousands of studies to confirm the value of a substance that is naturally made in the body. Last year alone there were well over 1200 studies done on melatonin.

Tulsi (holy basil) tea has been helping me. I was hesitant to post since I don't know what's wrong with me (not PD), but I have been having symptoms consistent with REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD). I was reading about UDCA as a possible treatment for PD [1,2] and found anecdotal reports that some PwP have had improvement in RBD using a related compound, TUDCA. Ursolic acid is another related compound which shows similar activities to UDCA [3]; tulsi is a source or ursolic acid.

2 - scienceofparkinsons.com/201...

3 - ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/240...

"The naturally occurring compound ursolic acid and the licensed drug ursodeoxycholic acid are chemically closely related to ursocholanic acid and dehydro(11,12)ursolic acid lactone. All four substances rescue mitochondrial function to a similar extent in parkin-mutant fibroblasts, suggesting a class effect. "

Thank you everyone šŸ˜Š
