Diazepam is not primarily used as an anti depressant, it is used as a muscle relaxant and in association with other medication for some psychiatric conditions.

Commonly used for anxiety all forms, panic attacks, muscles spasms, muscle disorders,

Like ALL medications it can be very effective, non effective, some may have allergic reactions, and should be regularly monitored.

It is a medication that can become addictive, hence careful monitoring and r view are essential when this medications is used.

This medication got a bad name in the late 60’s 70’s after it was abused by the medical profession for the “neurotic housewife” when old school doctoring belived this was best to manage women this way. This has now changed, and quite rightly so, but the lingering bad name is still there.

To the chap that has been taking such a large dose and for so many years, please listen to your medical professional and slowly get weaned off, since you started taking this medication, medication for psychological problems have advanced significantly so there are alternatives, also it is not just about medications there are advanced treatment for psychological problems that don’t require medication or only small amount to assist.

Diazepam used appropriately for the appropriate concern is a good medication and has shown to be helpful in Parkinson’s disease for such things as mandibular Dystonia and dysphasia due to muscle complications 2nd to Parkinson’s.

Managed by a holistic consensious medical professional this is a useful medication.

Always ask you medical professional all the questions you have even if they may appear odd or silly as often they are not and they can initiate good care.

I think it is called Valium in the US. It is used as sleeping aid and has been widely prescribed in millions. It is addictive and should be used with caution or advice from medical professional.

I apologize for not staying the generic name V’s common use name

Prescribing for sleeping disorders may contain diazepam Or any of the benzodiazepine family such as lorazepam ect

But it purpose is not to provide sleep it is a muscle relaxant and prescribing a benzodiazepine for soul purpose of sleep induction in poor medical practice

I apologize again if my first post did not say always speak with a medical professional about medications please note you should always ask questions and have a clear understanding of what medications you are taking and the purpose and the the risk factors

It is well documented that in the first 10 years of this drug family being available it was abused by the medical profession globally

I appreciated this piece of information..

"Diazepam used appropriately for the appropriate concern is a good medication and has shown to be helpful in Parkinson’s disease for such things as mandibular Dystonia and dysphasia due to muscle complications 2nd to Parkinson’s."

I have been suffering with mandibular dystonia/dysphasia for the past year and have recently been using Diazepam successfully without consulting either my GP or Neurologist. I wasn’t absolutely sure that it worked (thinking that it was a coincidence?) but now I am totally on board. It was prescribed in small doses for me to "settle my nerves" 6 years ago, and to help solve my restless legs at bedtime. I am now 74 and diagnosed in 2013. I don’t care if I become addicted if it helps the stiffness or tremors in my jaw. Nothing else worked and nothing has been prescribed.

Again, thank you Ambiguous. 🙋🏻‍♀️

Birdworld here again. I said in my previous response to you that I was using Diazepam for my mandibular dystonia.... ..in fact, I am taking Chlonazepam .5 mg....not Diazepam. My mistake. I will however be checking this out with my neurologist to see if I could try Diazepam and observe a difference in effectiveness.
