My last dental cleaning wasn’t a pleasant one because I was too tensed up to keep my mouth open for the extended period of time. I was tremoring as well. I was particularly struck with how little the doctor seemed to appreciate the unique issues with Parkinson’s.
I am now searching for a dentist who understands Parkinson’s. What are your experiences? Please share.
I had a lot of dental work done this fall. It’s not enjoyable when you’re trying to hold your mouth open and still and your body is jerking around. As much as I hate to take more medicine. My neurologist gave me Valium 5mg to get through my remaining visits. It worked well for me. My dentist and staff were very understanding and bent over backwards to try and make things as pleasant as possible. Ex. Neck pillow, blanket
I am one of the few people in the world who enjoys dental visits - I have been going to the same office since forever and it feels like family. Find an office that is friendly, comfortable and competent.
I schedule my visits for the morning when my meds are first kicking in, before my dyskinesia gets too bad. My hygienist and dentist are very sympathetic. Definitely find a new dentist.
