Holiday relief

First post on here but have been enjoying the discussions for a while.

Based in the UK but had a holiday in Spain recently. Normally take 6 half-Sinemet CR a day and generally pretty well controlled.

On holiday I was walking an average of 15000 steps every day including doing 1/2hr of running every other day (Couch to 5K program in case anyone has heard of it).

It was obviously a restful break from normal full-time work, but due to the heat at night I wasn't sleeping particularly well.

My observation was that I fairly easily managed to reduce my medication to 4 tablets a day, noticing when I could sense my tremor was on the verge of returning. This has left me with lots of questions around how I managed to do this. Was it the significant increase in daily exercise (I have a primarily desk-based job normally), was it a change in diet (although I try to eat a Mediterranean/low carb diet normally anyway), or was it that I wasn't sat at my work computer being very aware of any deterioration in fine motor skills (typing).

Lots to think about, and would be interested in hearing anyone's thoughts or similar experiences.

Nick

I sit at the computer for long periods and notice I seem to be more impaired when I get up from that, and less impaired after doing an hour of vigorous exercise.

I think it’s not sitting at the computer and being distracted and maybe less stressed. Nice to have a bit of relief either way!

I’d say the latter Nick for sure. The power of our minds is astonishing. I felt few symptoms on a recent holiday and wondered if I’d imagined having PD but within a few days of coming home...........🤔

Hi. Hope you had a great holiday. There are lots of reports about exercise helping & it certainly helps me - bursts of high intensity & specific exercises especially. Have a look at PDWarrior.com - have just completed the 10 week challenge & had noticeable improvements. Where in the UK are you? Running is also a good stress reliever.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm still pondering whether it was the diet, increase in exercise or lack of being sat at a desk that had the most beneficial effects. I know I have a least some control over the first two and now I'm getting into some running (for the first time in my life!) I think that's were my focus is going to be.

Huffers - thanks for your comment, and yes holiday was great. I'm based on the South Coast, North of Portmouth.
