The article states: "a readily-available and affordable vitamin"

The article is about recent research involving nicotinamide riboside, which in my understanding is actually pretty expensive.

The SoPD blog has a recent post about this (and related) research:

It is very expensive. The ones you can buy are around $40 per month for a 250mg per day dose so 2-17 g per day would cost a fortune to maintain!

They have corrected the recommended dose. The updated version says "A typical dose is between 2 and 17 milligrams daily, although more may be needed for those already experiencing Parkinson’s disease. Check with your doctor before using."

Interesting. Thanks. The tablets come in 125mg in the brand I have. I wonder how to get the dilution and how stable it is. Maybe mix an opened capsule with powdered stevia to water down and add to food? Any ideas?

Update 7/9: An earlier version of this article stated an incorrect typical dose of nicotinamide riboside. It should be 2 to 17 milligrams.

Thank you for this, Marcet.

Is about $1 for 250 mg of NAD today. It would be at least $8 per day for the 2 g. That is still cheaper than most PD meds. However, this was much cheaper about a year or two ago! The supplement industry is responding to the increase demand and raising prices 2+ folds.

I started my parents on TRU Niagen, but I am using Life Extension.

I'm not necessarily a believer, BUT I think the cost is minimal and the potential upside is huge, even if cell preservation does not produce quick or obvious results. I'm sticking with 2 grams of thiamine and 500 mg of nicotinamide riboside unless I'm convinced they don't help. I think thiamine has more immediate benefits, but nicotinamide riboside (B3) may be equally good in the long run. Tru Niagen (B3) sits on the shelf and gets used right along with Solgar Thiamine hcl (B1) for me.

Long term is probably the way to go, but for me, i already take too many supplements. True niagen is actually one of the more expensive ones. Good luck my friend!!!

Thanks, Bass! BACK ATCHA! My hope is to tread water long enough for someone to come up with a cure or at least a stop of the progression. Maybe we've already accomplished that with B1. I sure hope so!

Hi, are you still using Tru Niagen ? If so, any luck ? Happy New Year !

Yes! I think TruNiagen is a long term benefit. I don't think I'll ever know in the short term if it helps, BUT the long term mitochondrial benefit seems hard to refute. I will take it forever and would even if I didn't have Parkinson's disease. I even have my wife taking it. Joe (Sunvox) has written about it extensively and persuasively.
