Hi everybody, I'm brand new to this site and so glad I found it. So, I'm 76 diagnosed at 71 but more non-motor symptoms than motor symptoms. I am on high doses of Carbi/Levo (2 25/100's every 2 hours. Tremor wakes me 2-3 times a night, along with 4-5 trips to the bathroom. Sleep is terrible and pay for it during the day. I underwent an evaluation for the suitability for DBS at the Shands hospital in Gainesville, where after 2 days of exams of all types I got my diploma. Now what??? I was told that DBS will usually help symptoms that Sinemet helps. But the main non-motor symptom that I am concerned with is shortness and rapid breathing during the night which is stopped with 2 tablets of Sinemet (25/100). I have not had success with any other Parkinson medicine. I have found that Xanax .025 works as well as the Sinemet, in addition to cutting down on the trips to the bathroom. I have heard of the dangers of benzos over just a short course and do the best to avoid them. If anyone has any ideas about the pluses and minuses of DBS in my case, I would be gratefully thankfull.

I suggest you try mannitol and vit b1 before anything else. Also NAC. There is a lot written about the first 2 on this site.

Good luck!

Stay away from the benzos'. They're meant for short term use,are highly addicting and you will need higher doses as time goes on. Been there done that. There are other alternatives.
