Hi Mleis. Gocovri contains amantadine in an extended release formulation. I took amantadine for a few months which allowed me enough improvement in stiffness to exercise, and in terms, improved a little bit my walking. However, the adverse effects were such that it outweighted the benefits. I took Amantadine because sinemet didn't work for me. But I believe it is usually prescribed for dyskinesia caused by levodopa prescription. Good luck.

As of yet, insurance companies are fighting it because it costs thousands of dollars. One of my research study docs has been fighting for months to get it covered for one of his patients. So, I don't think many people are using it at this point.

My husband has been taking Gocovri for about a month. He did not have terrible dyskinesia but sometimes at high dose he did. The Gocovri has virtually eliminated it. His 'ON' time has improved significantly. Although it's not like he's gained a great amount of 'energy', he is up more hours per day, more animated, and more involved in things other than his health. Unfortunately, our Part D plan does will not cover so when the trial is over I think we are going to try regular amantadine until we can change Drug plans in January next.
