My husbands medicine isn't working like it used to....

My husbands medicine is not helping him the way it used to so his neurologist recommends getting the Duopa pump which puts the medicine directly into his small intestine. Does anyone have this?

My Dad has the pump, he is very happy with it.

That's good to hear. How long has he had it and how old is he? I'm most concerned about the daily care for that and the inconvenience of wearing the box. My husband has low blood pressure and has a higher risk of loosing his balance etc. Lots of things to consider.

Thanks

He is 72 and has had Parkinsons for 20 plus years. He is at late stages. He has had the pump since September. The box is not nearly as inconvenient as taking pills every three hours. It isnt a cure, my Dad is very frail and the Parkinsons is still progressing but the pump is well worth the inconvenience as the medication is much more consistent. They give you alot of options for wearing it. He wears it like a fanny pack. He is covered so there is no cost associated with having it. We met with a younger man in an earlier stage of Parkinsons and his results with the pump were much more dramatic. If I had Parkinsons, I would choose to have the pump

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with your dad and the benefits he has had.

You answered most of my concerns and I feel a lot better about pursuing this option.

Thank you again

That is the problem with medication. The body gets used to any fprm of medication and we have to take more and more in order to get any benefit. We eventually take so much and have so little benefit we are between a rock and a hard place.

Why not start doing exercise? He may think he is unable to do any exercise but he may be wrong. look at my website - reverseparkinsons.net and contact me.
