Bashing Doctors!

Bashing Doctors in this forum should not be done. If a doctor does not live up to your expectations then by all means tell us about it. But please do no bash all doctors.

It is easy to be ambivalent about the medical profession when you have an incurable disease. However, for that same reason I have the utmost respect for those who venture into this specialty knowing that they cannot offer a cure.

i would never bash any doctor on this site by name but i am guilty of bashing unnamed GP doctors on this site who are not neurologist let alone neurologists that are movement specialist or PD specialists yet try to treat their patients themselves. After a year plus from the time i brought my initial symptoms to my GP, i had to insist that he refer me. The neurologist not only diagnosed my condition in fifteen minutes and started me on Azilect to treat the symptoms and slow progression, he alleviated many of my concerns, informed me of the importance of exercise etc. etc. etc.

So i may have advised a few troubled individuals visiting this site to get thee to a movement specialist neurologist or even to get another opinion because after four years here with my PD brothers and sisters, we recognize when a 'newbie' is getting questionable advice or medication from his doctor.

Some doctors deserve "bashing" and some do not. I had one motion disorder doctor who told me if I won't start taking c/l I'll be dead in 3 years. He told me PD is 100% hereditary and c/l is 100% slowing the progression of PD. He actually was bashing at me because I did not follow his instructions without asking any questions. When I asked him if is better to delay treatment with c/l he told me that was a stupid question. Ironically this guy has a degree in psychology, too.

I went to another one who is also a researcher in motion disorder and who proved is much easier to deal with. He knew the name of the other doctor after I described his behavior.

I agree there are good doctors and bad doctors. I believe in science , not in miracles and fairy tales. But I respect the other people right to bash at all doctors, movie stars, politicians and I won't insult anyone for having a different opinion as long he/she does not insult me.
