How likely would you be to consent to a lumbar puncture as either a clinical trial participant or for your personal quest to find help?

I did several as a participant in the MJFF PPMI study. However, 7 years later and not as hearty, I am not as willing. But if there was a compelling reason and an experienced doctor I would probably do it.

Hi there, I just saw your post and as I am about to partake in a clinical trial for which I have to have about three LP'S, I thought I would respond to your post.......... I must admit I have never had a LP before but I can remember assisting with them when I was a recently graduated nurse (a few years ago now)!!!!!!!!!!! Because this drug trial is going to be a very significant one, I am thinking that everything that has to be done should be done to/for the participants..... BUt I would like to reserve my judgement until after I have had the first LP if that is OKAY. Cheers Bindi

I’ve had three all whilst participating in research studies or a drug’s trial. I reckoned that if you’re having an expert in the field of Parkinson’s insert it they would be the most qualified person to do this delicate task. There was very little discomfort and no untoward side effects. So yes I’d commend everyone to offer to participate in trials - if we don’t how will the cure for Parkinson’s ever be found?

Both my husband (control) and I have had 5-7 each. No problem ever for him, but I have developed little bone spurs and curvature of the spine, so now they need. to guide the needle with ultrasound, which works perfectly. As long as you rest the 24 hours after the procedure, you should have no problem. My next one is in May at Johns Hopkins.

NanCyclist,

Which trial are you doing at JH? I have one more trip back to UM Baltimore this year. It's a lot of travel from Seattle.

Yes. We are in several trials, including PPMI for Doug.
