Well I have finally made the move.

I know I spend most of my time in the running section these days, but I still have Parkinson's and I run with it for all of us . It my sincere hope that in some small way by continuing to push myself beyond the boundaries imposed on us by PD I will help others overcome these challenges.

Recently I took part in the Robin Hood duathlon , a mixture of running followed by mountain biking and even more running. More than 400 athletes started . I was the last to finish but there was,35 DNFs.

So after some consideration ( at least 12months) I have decided to change my medications.

I am not a doctor and have no medical qualifications so please do not change or modify your medications without first consulting your doctor or PD nurse.

For the last ,48 hrs I have been using a tinkture of Mucuna Pruriens. I have researched this substance considerably and I will keep you updated. Tomorrow morning I take part in a normal Saturday 5 km Parkrun. I feel "good to go" so I wonder how I will feel after??????

Can I ask how long you have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and how much medication you were on ? My husband has started running again but is on quite a bit of medication which and has dyskinesia at times which makes running a bit difficult, I read you don’t get it with Pruriens😀

Hi. Official diagnosed 3 yes ago but , wrongly supposed to have " Oltimers, disease," for at least ,1 year before. Currently was on Madopar 100/25s 5 times a day + 1 niphedapine patche 6 mg daily. Not really sure what the effects of my change in meds will be as it is so far of a limited period only. But today I feel better than I have for ages. If I can help in anyway with your husbands running please continue to ask question in public on the forum or message me and I will help if possible. Re running, it takes a lot of practice but the basics are "stand upright / never look down/, swing your arms" or over you will go.! Gravel rash and bruises can be expected but it's worth it.. I had catchers positioned at the end of my ,,5k parkruns for ,6 months.

Tincture of puriens. Very interesting. Can you measure your dosage of dopamine. ???? Where can I buy some? How do you feel without your meds? Thankyou

Hi Beverly it's race day and I can't sleep. Measuring is done via med spoon and calculation is corrected for you. Med is drawn via pipet . Wish me luck for the ,10 k . The new meds ( to put it bluntly) feel like the proverbial " dogs nuts". Back later Mike

Well in company with my wife Rita we finished the Doncaster 10 k nearly 1min faster than her previous PB (personal best) .

Remember every step I take is for us ,( that includes all PWPs /carers and all family members and friends) without the strength and help of you all I would not be able to function. To my P T (personal trainer,) and Sports massage expert K many thanks. Without your belief in my ability to run again I would still be the shadow of the man I am today.

You have done fantastically well to run a 10 k race! When u catch your breath pls tell me...does the tincture nauseate you? Where can I order it? I bought the 95% white macuna pwder but felt so sick after taking it. I'd like to try the tincture though. Thanks for answering me back on your race day! Bev

Morning Beverly. Its 0410 so this medication does not help with insomnia "yet,". I ordered from , Indigo Herbs of Glastonbury. And yes it does taste horrible. I H recommend you take it with water or your favourite drink.

I remember as a child my mum giving me a linctus called " Liqua fruita " ( something like that anyway,) and that maybe conditioned me a bit. I just swallow it. I have no unpleasant side effects. Best of luck. Mike

Thanks Mike I'll try to buy the tinxture but we live in Canada .

I tried everything naturel I could think of for sleeping. Finally my Dr prescribed sinamet cr. I take one at Bed time and I sleep well most of the night. What I need at night is dopamine as I become very anxious and my legs tingle as I lie in bed trying to sleep. Then I get agitated and pace. The dopamine takes that all away. But I'm reluctant to take it. Soooo I'll try your tincture. Thanks a lot and keep on running !!! Bev

Good 4 u! Have u experienced gait or foot drop/drag? My right side is becoming heavy... it’s depressing! I keep swinging that arm

And stepping into that stride to “will it” into rhythm. Am I alone in this type of thing, I wonder? Will I ever get it back ( doubtful) and can I slow this progression ( hopeful). No meds. Using dietary supplements, exercise and stress avoidance/MGMT. Proud of folks like u, @mike1942 . I started Mannitol a month or more ago-> it’s a Gas! And my mind is better ( placebo or not , I’m sticking w it )!

Good four you Amy. Moderators I feel this post is getting too long . And not wishing to monopolies the forum suggest you mark it as closed. It may be detrimental to some to expect too much from my continued experiences to overlap into their own lives. Any contributors to the post so far I will be more than happy to help on a PM basis.
