From the website: pdrecovery.org/medicated-pa...

“The Parkinson’s Recovery Project’s does not provide support or training for people who have ever used dopamine-enhancing antiparkinson’s drugs for more than three weeks…We no longer recommend a recovery program for any person who has ever used dopamine-enhancing antiparkinson’s drugs for more than three weeks… Medications of Parkinson’s, or Once Upon A Pill... The case studies in this book detail the disastrous results that occurred when medicated patients began to recover.“

" people who have tried to resume even small amounts of medication to address the lingering, somewhat milder problems ... have had horrible problems: death, insanity, and, in two cases, violent thrashing that requires the drug user to be permanently strapped to a bed.”

Anybody here NOT used dopamine-enhancing antiparkinson’s drugs for more than three weeks?

I have been using dopamine-enhancing anti-parkinson’s drugs for over two years. I have experienced considerable improvement via Qigong. Using Hadlock’s terminology I am “beginning to recover”. I went off my meds completely and found that it was helpful to resume at a lower dose. I have experienced no adverse effects from this at all, contrary to her experience.

She claims that PD meds cause "drug-induced parkinsonism" with no evidence other than her say-so. Reading further down the page I see a whole lot more to object to.

Personally I find her to be bizarre.

Hi, I wish we could get some of the questions answered. I'm hoping maybe some of the new people that are not on medication can use the information. When I did do Qigong it really helped. I am not doing it now I am getting worse.

What is getting in the way of you restarting Qigong?

What form of Qigong are you performing? Have you had any further improvements or setbacks in the 2 years since this post?

I'm willing to believe that getting a foot massage and having someone listen to my complaining for an hour a week for over a year might help me"recover". Add Qigong to that and it seems even more plausible.

I also find that I can believe many of her comments about addiction. The stories she relates about several of her patients who, having never before had a problem with addiction, suddenly become super-addicts who fly out of control actually ring true.

In fact, I find many of her theories plausible, but I think that she has little by way of solid proof, although she probably does have a lot of useful information collected from their patients over the years. I think she might be over-reaching because she feels guilty about not warning her patients, so she's erring on the side of safety.

Someone should conduct a controlled study, and include an MD who can write prescriptions for goodness sake!

The only thing that has helped me is thiamine HCL.

I have no excuse, I just don't feel like it must be the Parkinson's apathy. I am riding on the theracycle that I got used however that is hurting my right knee. I have been inordinately feeling sorry for myself. So that is my mental state right now.
