There is a FDA trial in progress now. You can find our more information about this trial in the Fox Trial Finder. I think you will have to sign up for the Free Fox Trial Membership to access this. However it is worth reading as it gives you info on specifics of amounts of CBD they are testing. foxtrialfinder.michaeljfox....

I applied for the study because they are very close to my home and I am interested in whether CBD would help me. They have not responded to my request, probably because I am in the early stages so my tremor level is not consistent and mostly controlled by medication. So it would probably be difficult to determine if it is helping me or not. I have considered buying CBD oil and doing my own personal trial, but I haven't been motivated to try it yet.

I also have dystonia, which frequently occurs with Parkinson's. I think CBD would definitely help with dystonia, as muscle cramps are one of the reasons that doctors here can prescribe medical marijuana. (The conditions that physicians can prescribe medical marijuana vary by state.) There are still benefits of getting a medical marijuana prescription in my state as the taxes you pay are a lot lower.

If you live in a state where you can buy CBD, I would suggest that you just try it. There are different types of CBD available. I have been told that the salespeople at the dispensary can help you select the right one based on your symptoms. If you don't live in a place where you can just buy CBD, why not take a vacation to a state where you can buy CBD without a prescription?

alexandria12 profile image

What dosage

qazwsx11 profile image
qazwsx11

I am taking it for several months intermittently. I am in my second year after diagnosis. I primarily take it before sleep and it certainly helps with that. I take other anti inflammatory supplements so it's hard to say if it's beneficial but I have been steadily feeling better in the past months. My frozen shoulder is almost back to normal. I still need my levodopa though or I get pretty stiff on my left side.

One thing to point out is that CBD comes in different concentrations. You might want to start with low and go up.

I live in California where it's legal.

Mishod, I'm curious - how much do you take of the oil, and how do you take it? Someone told me to use a tiny amount and put it under your tongue.

twotutts42 profile image
twotutts42 in reply toOceanwind

Hi I use 4 to 6 drops under tongue or about the size of rice grain of the paste under my tongue. I also have capsules to take if I'm at work. CBD brothers have also just bought out some you can mix with water to drink, I have just got some and it seems to work well.

Hi I started with the blue oil, then I bought the blue capsules, a few weeks ago I bought the purple paste I use blue for the day and the purple for nighttime , find I get lots cramps in legs and feet, this really helps, the blue oil seems to help my tremor.

Hope this helps.

Tremor and stiffness and toe curling are my main symptoms. I recently got a Personal Trainer at the Gym , thought I'd give it a month...I feel so different, was hard the first few times, didn't realise how weak my muscles were, plus was finding it hard to get up from sofas and things without pulling on something to help up. 3 months later I can squat, get up easily , walk better I find now if I don't go or miss a few days I go down hill again. Have to gC Try most things to try and stay on top of PD. Let me know how you get on 😊

Well done on getting a trainer and starting the exercise programme. You might be interested in the PD warrior programme.its designed specifically for PD there's a good book and video to follow . It's a 10 week programme and well worth doing.

twotutts42 profile image
twotutts42 in reply toBazillion

Hi yes I have seen the PD warrior, think that it is very good but I wanted to try something a bit more challenging, very good for co-ordination and overall health. Did think it was quite expensive and when I spoke to my neuro he said that I would be better of walking and save my money! I do know of someone that goes and they enjoy it. Any exercise is good 😊

Bazillion profile image
Bazillion in reply totwotutts42

I bought the book and DVD off amazon and do the exercises if I can't get out on the bike ,the tennis court or for a hike due to bad weather. They are very good to improve balance and, coordination not really cardio

According to my fit bit I average 2 hrs cardio a day ,10000 steps +, so Doing them is a little light relief.!

It's iNteresting that your neuro agrees with John Pepper!

I also take CBD mainly at night to sleep and for pain.

twotutts42 profile image
twotutts42 in reply toBazillion

Think the neuro was saying that walking is good as we know. He didn't agree with cost of the PD warrior , I have four dogs so do lots of walking and fast walking, I agree it is good but there were still days when it was hard and you have to push yourself. I fractured my foot on the stairs in Jan, and couldn't walk on it for a few months . I got a personal trainer and he has given me exercise programme in three months I cannot tell you how much fitter and stronger I feel. Everybody says how much better and stronger I look. Walking is good and I do that as well but for me I will be going to gym at least three times a week. Was very hard to start and I thought it was going to finish me but I have passed that and am doing much more exercise with weights as well and boxing then I ever thought possible if I miss some sessions because of my work I feel bad . It's one of those things that you don't know till you try it. No pain no gain and I know for me I have to push that bit harder because I want to stay on top my PD. And not rely on the drugs.....which actually appear to last longer when I train.

Good Luck be interesting to know how you get on with it,

Hi there. I live in Colorado and have been using the CBD nectar and gummies for over a year now. I have discovered that the CBDs help pain and muscle rigidity on the right side where the majority of my motor symptoms are. The pain in my joints from arthritis has also been relieved. I've got a really bad knee and I'm scheduled for a total knee replacement in September. The orthopedic doctor couldn't believe I wasn't in more pain. Apparently I have no cartilage left, but have continued to play and be active.

It's interesting how subtle the CBDs are. I don't really appreciate what they are doing until I forget to take them....then I start feeling achy and stiff all over and all my joints ache. I have also found that the CBDs work better if you add THC to the equation (tiny amount for me. I'm a lightweight).

I usually take a total of 30 mg CBDs. I spread it over 3 times a day. I take THC 2.5mg a couple of times a day. The CBDs alone do not effect the tremors , that I've noticed. THC seems to knock the tremors out, but I really don't like getting stoned and it seems like that is what it takes to control the tremors.

One of the best things I've found about Medical Marijuana is the ability to take care of symptoms on your own. Between side effects from the PD drugs and the PD symptoms, there's a lot to manage. It's so nice not to have to go to the doctor for everything! If I'm nauseated, I take a little THC. If I'm in more pain, I take an extra dose of CBD. For insomnia, I take Indica drops.

It has been of great benefit to me

, but every body is different. If you have the opportunity to try Medical Marijuana, do it very carefully. I can tell you, too much is pretty awful!

i have all the same issues as you. if i get medical marijuana prescription in ny where i live can i bring back cbd, thc and indica from colorado on airplane to ny?

in nyc there is only one dispensary and not the selection colorado has. i,ve heard bubba kush is ideal for night time inflammation, pain and broken sleep. it's an indica.

how much a month does your marijuana cost? is it covered by drug plan reimbursement?

in reply to6780

No. You can not legally fly with Marijuana products that I know of.

It's not cheap. My estimate is about $200 a month, and is not covered by a drug plan. Also there is the cost of the medical card (about $225 a year). I try to remind myself that the neuroprotective qualities of CBDs are well worth it.

6780 profile image
6780 in reply to

thank you for response.

do you remember "emily 1957" post about her moving to colorado.

i am disintegrating physically, personality and emotion.

i am in nyc which has only 1 dispensary. i am thinking of coming to colorado for 3-6 months to see if marijuana combo could improve my life. you understand.

how would i go about staying in colorado to try life there? i don't drive. i am not rich. i would keep my nyc apartment since i have family in nyc and so moving away for good is a big decision only driven by desperate situation. i have a chi dog.

any suggestions stay near marijuana dispensorary. rental that allows dogs. good travel with pd/arthritis. thanks for any recommendations.

Like you I mix thc paste in a bottle of cbd oil in scant amounts and do sublingual drops as needed to calm the tremor. Also on mucuna 15% 2 x day. That and lots of supplements.

Great that it works for you. Are you on prescriptions for PD as well?

Hi, my 83 yr old mom has had PD for 9 yrs and struggles nearly daily with severe nausea. Can you tell me whether CBD oil alone might help reduce this symptom or is it the THC alone that helps people with nausea (ie chemo patients)? We don't live in a progressive state so it's hard to "try it and see". I can't think of any way to get THC into her system apart from smoking it and she would probably be too afraid to try that. I could get CBD oil online. Her primary PD symptoms are GI in nature (bloating, nausea, constipation). Any advice? Thanks!

Islandhappy profile image
Islandhappy in reply toMiafortune

if you can get the buds, you can go on the internet for instructions to make the oil. it involves toasting the buds in the oven at low heat, cooking it in a crock pot with coconut oil overnight. you can then experiment with strength. mixing this with low thc CBD oil (I use charlottes web from colorado). 500 mg bottle. I use only occasionally for tremor and there is no high at the dosages. I use the oil sublingually. i have a friend that has wonderful result for her mom who has alzheimers, she puts it in gel capsules. believe me before PD I was not a fan of cannabis. now I am a proponent

Miafortune profile image
Miafortune in reply toIslandhappy

Thanks for the great info/idea. My poor mom is so miserable with daily nausea which she has had for many years but it has gotten so bad she can't function. I'm going to try it out for sure. I personally don't care for cannabis but have always supported research & decriminalization efforts. Take good care!

Islandhappy profile image
Islandhappy in reply toMiafortune

I was having terrible nausea and I was prescribed Zofran. it helped. I think the cbd also helped but not for acute episodes. it did improve my appetite as I wasnt eating and losing weight. dr. says Amend(sp) is also good for nausea.

Miafortune profile image
Miafortune in reply toIslandhappy

Now, why is it I've taken my mom to 3 neurologists for PD and NONE even will take her complaints of severe nausea seriously? It's like they ignore it as there is nothing to be done about it. Are the rxs you mention relatively new? I found a medication for nausea & gastroparesis (she has both) while doing a web search but I can't tell if it is now legal in the US or not. Maybe you have heard of it - Domperidone? You can get it in many countries (ie UK) and even over-the-counter in many other countries but the US banned it "due to serious side effects". I have trouble trusting the FDA/Pharma. Well, thanks again for the helpful info. I will add these medications to my research list and ask her doctor about it.

Islandhappy profile image
Islandhappy in reply toMiafortune

zofran is common in the US. It is a small sublingual pill. I also drank lots of ice chips in water. I believe my nausea was caused by overwhelming post nasal mucous drainage during a bad allergy season. They also gave me an antihistamine called hydroxazine which helped my appetite. Btw that mucous problem is common listening to other posts. And cbd oil helped.

I tried maj. But it makes me paranoid. Doesn't med maj make one high?

in reply toRosabellazita

It takes some trial and error when learning what works for your body (when it comes to Medical Marijuana). I have found, for me, I do better with CBD dominant intake with a bit of Indica(THC) nectar at night. Sativa(THC) tends to make me somewhat anxious, nervous. There are so many products that there's probably a fit for most people.

Islandhappy profile image
Islandhappy in reply toRosabellazita

I use very little. dont get any high associated with it. paranoia is a well documented side effect. I believe that many people believe that you have to take a higher dose related with "partying" but I think there is a level way under that which is therapeutic. In my opinion.

I'm on cbd brothers website please tell me what to order for tremor.which oil or paste ,,and which thc product

danfitz profile image
danfitz

I have been experimenting with both CBD oil and THC for the past 18 months in different ratios. I think the CBD oil is very helpful for sleep issues while the THC is more effective for tremors and toe curling. I have found that the THC is effective at doses below the amount that causes intoxication. Also both compounds greatly diminish my need to take Sinimet. That is a good thing in and of itself. My suggestion would be to obtain CBD oil as well as a THC tincture and find what dosing works for you. It seems to be different for everyone. The oil and the THC tincture need to be standardized so you have consistent potency over time and can figure out the dosing. Best wishes.

Rosabellazita profile image
Rosabellazita in reply todanfitz

Please tell me where to get both of these on line. Cant buy it here.

danfitz profile image
danfitz in reply toRosabellazita

THC is not available on-line. There are people who advertise CBD oil online. But these are rip-offs. It is CBD oil from hemp, not marijuana, and while it contains cannaboids they are mostly a different group than what is found in marijuana.

Rosabellazita profile image
Rosabellazita in reply todanfitz

So cbd brothers is a rip off? Some people on here said the blue oil helped their tremor so i ordered some. I dont want to start pd meds with all the side effects.

danfitz profile image
danfitz in reply toRosabellazita

I looked at their webpage and don't know if it is a rip-off. I see they are from the UK and I know very little about medical marijuana laws in the UK other than it is illegal. That, in itself, makes me dubious about their claims. But they may be legit. However, here in the States there have been numerous companies trying to make a fast buck by promoting CBD oil. All of them are selling hemp oil. There are also lurkers on many websites who will pm website users and offer (for a price) to obtain CBD oil and they of course lie about the provenance off the CBD oil they are promoting. Sometimes they are owners or employees of the fake CBD oil companies masquerading as website users. So, unless you can obtain the CBD oil in a state, province, or country where medical cannabis is legal it is strictly "buyer beware". If you get the CBD oil from CBD Brothers I hope my concerns are proven wrong and it works for you. But definitely do not buy from someone who messages you. Best wishes.

danfitz profile image
danfitz in reply toRosabellazita

I took another look at CBD Brothers website and I am pretty sure that their claims about the provenance of their products are a sham. They claim to sell "whole plant extracts". Real whole plant extracts are illegal in the UK. And it would be illegal to ship them to the US. I believe this to be just another scam to fleece us out of our money. Any product they ship to the US is likely just to be hemp CBD oil. Sorry.

DRW2008 profile image
DRW2008

I am really bad about missing my schedule time to take my meds, so I frequently find myself stiffening up and having bad tremors. For times like this, for immediate relief, I take a safe, natural and fast acting med, POT, cbd and thc. Plain cbd is not of any help to me. For me pot extends the time between doses of my prescribed meds by as much as 4 hours.

I have not tried pot for taking the place of sinemet or merapex but I wouldn't be surprised if it works.
