I have been reading the posts for a few months and finally decided to post myself. I was diagnosed with PArkinsons a year ago but neurologist thinks it may have been in my system for a long time before that. Have also got celiac disease, finally started to get it under control after 4 years, I am convinced their is a link between the two, it's difficult to know what symptons belong to which disease, has anyone else got both and do you feel that their is a connection.

The only common symptom i saw was constipation and maybe falls. What symptoms do you have.
Constipation is probably a sympton of both, been a problem for many years, I get a severe pain from my ribs to my stomach most days and havnt been able to seperate this.it normally starts after doing 20 minutes gentle house work, it doesn't take much to stat if off, and after 30 mins of lying down it starts to go. Then I have the usual PK Symptons, right hand, shakes, difficulty writing, quite voice , bad memory, forgetting words etc
The pain you feel sounds like celiac my daughter does the same and she has celiac. With Parkinson's (PD) my pain is only relieved with PD meds rest does not help just the opposite activity or exercise stops the pain. When writing is it just hard or is it small. Does your hand shake all the time or does it stop when you pick something up.
I would encourage you to start a vigorous exercise program it is the best thing you can do to help control your PD. I have not seen anyone here say that exercise did not help.
Christine, I also have PD and celiac. I too get pain in right side and attribute it to overload on my liver when I am not eating right. I had celiac for years before I was diagnosed in my 40's. I am now 59 and have a constant war with candida overgrowth because my gut doesn't work properly. If I overload my system with sugar and carbs my condition worsens and I have bloating, inflammation throughout my body, and brain fog. I use natural ways to combat the candida such as probiotics, eating a candida diet and taking natural anti-fungals such as grapefruit seed extract. Also, doing a detox such as Coconut Shell Charcoal (good brand is Prescribed for Life) will help get your body back in balance. However, take it slow or your liver will be overburdened and your right side will really hurt and you will be exhausted.
I also take HCL betaine & pepsin because often celiac patients do not have enough acid in stomach to digest their food which leads to constipation. Metagenics has a brand that is gluten-free called Metagest. Not sure if this is what you have going on but I would advise giving the diet a try and above regiment and see if you feel better.

Stop eating gluten containing products anything with wheat barley oats and rye. Millet rice and sweet potatoes are great. Gluten hides in many products
parkie3 is correct of course, BUT easier said than done. There is no such thing as good gluten free bread. Might as well stop looking . It does not exist.
Soda crackers do not have much gluton
Try this bread recipe:
1/2 cup coconut flour (or can use almond flour), 1/2 cup buckwheat flour, 1/2 cup coconut milk (use only the creamy part on top), 5 eggs, 2 Tbsp. coconut oil, 1/2 tsp sea salt, 1 tsp. aluminum-free baking powder
1. Blend together eggs, coconut oil, and salt. 2)Add coconut flour, coconut milk, buckwheat and baking powder and whisk until you don't see lumps, 3)Pour in greased with coconut oil loaf pan and bake @ 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
4)Loaf is done when firm and light golden color.
Hi Christine, my wife was diagnosed with PD in September, she also has celiac d which was diagnosed about 15 years ago, never thought about the 2 being connected, you could be right, I'm sure PD is in your system for years before it finally shows its ugly head
There is a study from Italy that suggedsts that PD originates in the lower Gut. Celac ii a gut disease. If both originate from same locastion, dot follw

Hi! I too suffer from stomach issues, mainly constipation. My neurologist believes it is important to clean out the bad bacteria as much as possible. I take milk of magnesia every couple of days if I don't go on my own, and I feel much better
Exercise as much as possible, and now that christmas is coming, keep busy but don't overdo it. Thanksgiving was tough for me this year, and I say next year we are going to a restaurant!
When my daughter was diagnosed with coeliac disease, the specialist told me that I had to become a "can reading specialist". NO wheat, rye, barley or oats. I have learnt to read EVERY ingredient on any food stuff, except of course fresh veg and fruit, that I buy. Gluten is hidden in so many products - watch out for any "thickening" agent, etc. Corn is gluten-free. In South Africa we get lots of really nice gluten-free products, including muffins and several types of bread. Good reason to come and explore the Southern tip of the world! GymBag you'll be very welcome. And by the way, her symptoms were extreme diarrhoea, not constipation, and a distended/bloated stomach. When we stopped ALL gluten, her health returned to normal and today she is completely healthy and pain free.
