Got together with my PD friends last night along with a Rep. From Medtronics. He told us that they now prefer to do DBS while the patient is sleeping as apposed to being a wake. They put you out for 8 hours and you wake up fixed.

Yea when I was told I'd be awake it put a whole different spin on it.
I hear that the halo is the most painful part of the operation so as long as I am asleep for that. The rep. said that imaging equipment has become so good that its better than you being awake .( can you hear me now? can you hear me know?)
I have had mine done at OHSU in Portland OR by DR Kim Burchiel. I recall the worst part being the catheterisation for urine retention. I was given Vicodin for pain and took only a half. I requested Tylenol 3 instead and needed only ½ twice a day for 2 weeks for the hallow site pain A great team and tolerable experience!
Hi there well you guys and gals are lucky if they confirm this and wished my husband was given that opportunity as he had DBS awake and Lordy knows what nerves of steel you need to go through this procedure as he said he could remember every detail.other people i spoke to said the same so I will always be in awe of all those who have had DBS when awake .🌺
