Hello dawn

For years i had no energy for anything i could only mow for about 30 minutes and had to rest. I was using a riding mower.

Then i started to exercise (Crossfit) and now after 1 year i(today marks 1 year of exercise i went to exercise 197 times last year) i have more energy than i can use.

No energy or fatigue can also be a sign of depression

just a change in attitude can help

so think positive it does help

I also changed meds i take c/l 25/100 3 tablets 5 times a day.

good luck

You better know it. I took two naps today. When I can get my legs to hold me up long enough I exercise and that does give me a burst of energy. BTW your dog is adorable!

I would also emphasise Doony C's comment, that using energy to exercise ironically increases energy.

Inosine - on stage III testing for slowing down progress of PD - has given me more get up and go.

LDN - low dose naltrexone - is also said to increase energy.

If you can summon up the willpower and there's no doubt about it can be hard exercise definitely increases your energy and general wellbeing. I've just spent the New Year in the Peak district, walking three days with my Nordic poles and I feel marvellous. I'm female, 76 and 6 years from dx.

Where did you get your Nordic poles. They sound like I may be able to get on with them. The only problem I can see, will I be able to walk on my own with them. At the moment I have a walking stick, and I hold on to my husbands arm for balance. Dawn .

They are recommended for a number of conditions including PD and MS because they improve balance amongst other things

I think I got them through the fitness outfit running a course at vast expense. They have since gone down in price I've just googled Amazon and Nordic poles and they have a wide variety and Blacks website have a sale on. However you might prefer to try some out in a shop. There is a specific technique to get the best out of the poles. Age UK are sponsoring free Nordic Walking courses in many parts of country. Hope this is useful

Forgot to say, are you getting quality sleep? Lack of sleep leaves me completely befuddled the next day.

Only 5 replies!!! I should have thought list would have been huge. PD drains energy & also makes simple activities/actions & thought processes into mammoth tasks. Our ability to organise tasks so that they get finished flies out of the window. Then we get depressed about what we haven't been able to do etc etc. It's a cycle & it is compounded by the effects of some meds.

One way to tackle this is to break tasks down into small elements & work on a bit at a time. If this succeeds the resulting 'lift' encourages us to try a little more.

The same applies to physical fitness. I am one of those who cannot benefit from the rigorous programmes often recommended by enthusiasts. I cannot walk far or fast, only on level ground - my balance also precludes many forms of standing exercise. So I use my (NHS) physio to draw up exercises I can do horizontally ie on the bed or a couch (I can't get up from the floor unaided), or she helps my balance & lower body strength using exercises where I can hold onto things for (confidence) support.

If you think you can manage this do give it a try because the more you do the more you can do. I think daytime naps are important. For me 10 minutes lying down in the quiet is worth 30 minutes sitting in a chair with background noise.

Finally the way you balance & control your meds is very important. I take 1 Ropinirole CR & 1 Sinemet CR on waking.........1 Sinemet+ mid morning............1 Sinemet+after lunch.....1 Sinemet CR around 4:30........1 Sinemet+ around 6:30.........1 Sinemet+ (if needed).

Apparently the maximum Sinemet daily for 12yrs dx = 6 units so I stick to this or less.

*CR = controlled release

Honeycombe, Dividing tasks up into increments -- brilliant. I'd certainly get the feeling of getting more done! I already feel better about my naps. :-)

Of course. Exercise begets energy. Energy supplements. There are lots which contribute to energy...CiQ10 being a major one. We take them all!! Check thyroid.
