I'm with you, Madzy. Anything worth saying can be said with respect for the dignity of the person you're talking to.

Osidge comments are right on. Lets hear more.

300 pounds is a helluva a lot to lift, even if you're 25 and NOT a PwP. I'd be really interested to know how old you are, and whether you symptoms are "Tremor at Rest" or "Posture Instability Gate Disorder."

There are a lot of trophies in background. What are they for, weight lifting or something else.

in reply toFMundo

Posture Instability Gate Disorder

the trophies are for remote control car racing which i no longer do

i raced 1/8 scale

the cars had 4 wheel drive 2 speed automatic trannies

disc brakes 4 wheel independent suspention

ran 65 mph on a track 200 ft long and 100 feet wide

by the way the house i am in i built with my on two hands in 1986

i say this to show i never say never

it has 3000 sq ft

i just read some how to books and did it took 6 months with a little help from my brothers

the video was shot 9/27/2015

i know this sounds a little commercial but was wrote by me on my crossfit gym website

My name is Bailey Whitley. I am a 61-year-old male who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2006. I have struggled with everyday life since that time. I’ve had several doctors during this period and was placed on various medications in an attempt to manage my symptoms. However, exercise was never considered for disease management and was not a significant part of my daily routine.

I became involved with CrossFit in January 2015. My experience has been extremely rewarding and is one of the easiest yet most intense things I have ever done in my life. The group atmosphere at CrossFit FCH has been a great motivator. Watching others push themselves to near exhaustion while saying they enjoyed the workout is very encouraging. My amazing coach Stephanie has been the most motivating, encouraging, dedicated, and inspirational person in my life outside of my family. However, I now consider everyone at CrossFit FCH a part of my family.

Since beginning CrossFit, I now take very little or no medication each day. I have very few symptoms and live a normal life free from most day-to-day aches and pains associated with aging. My knees now have full range of motion without pain. My back no longer aches after bending for hours from working on cars or doing yard work. I do not tire easily. I know that CrossFit has extremely slowed the progression of my disease. That is why I will make CrossFit a part of my life from this day forward. I hope this inspires people of all ages to take charge of their lives and realize that it is never too late to make a positive change.

typical work out

can be adjusted for your fitness level

about one hour

all done supervised by 1 or 2 trainers

PreWod (wod is work out of the day)

Warm Up

Run 200meters

150 JUMP ROPE

20 Hollow Rocks (lay on floor and rock back and forth)

20 Arch Rocks (lay on floor on back and rock back and forth)

Strength

3 RM Deadlift (I did 295 pounds)

MetCons

8Min AMRAP- HSPU, TTB, BURPEES

Metcon

5 HSPU (hand stand push up)

7 TTB (toes to bar hang from pull up bar and touch toes to bar)

9 Burpees

Cool Down

Walk 200m

1 min Lunge Stretch (each leg)

1 min squat hold

it is not that it only affects my PD it affects my entire life

my symptoms were

my right arm did not hang down it would be across my chest when i walked

i had slow gate

i would freeze up

i could not write my name

i would set in a chair or toilet and need help to get up

slow movements

rigidity of my right arm

all could be helped with meds but not completely

i could work in the garage or in the yard for one or two hours at most

now with exercise i can go all day 10 or 12 hours

i require less meds

i have something to think about other than PD

a new group of friends that encourage me

a new focus on life

everything is easier

no more depression

i am better today than 5 years ago

another note

knowing what i know now

i can remember times 25 years ago i started to show signs of PD

only in 2006 is when i was told i had PD

so i have had PD for 25 to 30 years

exercise will help every one PD or healthy

it is a good thing

this is my testimonial on my Crossfit gym website

Good for you! Inspiring story. I think having a purpose and being challenged is important.

Great story, I hope your success with cross fit continues. One of the first things I notied was I was not able to work out or get that seratonin kick that I used to.

I have none of the symptoms that you had, we all have different symptoms and stories, and different treatments that work for us. We can find those things that help us with support. I have never been so lost in my life, this thing came and slammed me up against a wall. i had very fast moving PD and am grateful for everything that has come my way although not everything has worked. When we do find something lets celebrate it ! we have enough to deal with...

Well, bless your heart, Bailey. I'm not only impressed by your ability, but moved by your refusal to accept the limits PD brought to your life early on.

your welcome

Awesome to hear you finding something that helps so much.

For me if I take it easy one day the next day is worse. Keeping active keeps me going.

Diagnosed about three years ago, now 41. Docs have told me I have only a few years left working in my current job. I intend to get to 60 before I have to give up the current job. Might be unrealistic but gotta give it a go.

All The Best!

in reply to

the best advice i can give is to keep active rely as little as possible on meds and pay a lot of attention to changes and don't confuse side affects from meds to Pd symptoms

keeping fit is the most important thing you can do it will help you with all aspects of life and with all other curves life will throw at you as you age

i never thought of this before but the stronger you are the more you can carry

keep well

That's great. And this isn't a negative remark but...not all of us can lift 300 weights. I go to the gym and am pleased I can work out with 7lb weights. When I read how people are doing an hour on crossfit and pushing 300lbs weights, I can feel discouraged and think well, what's the point? I think it's about how we express ourselves. This is not a competition, we all do what we can within our own limits and capabilities.

in reply tostevie3

" i go to the gym and am pleased I can work out with 7lb weights"

That was the best thing you said

going is 99% of the battle

by no means be discouraged by me

i post to show what is possible

the point is not to do what i do but to do as much as you can

to get fit and live a good life

i am the only PD person and oldest person at my gym

every one there says they are inspired by me

but i don't do it for them i do it for me

as should do it for you

wish you a long and good life

bailey

our motto is

I read this blog every day and when I'm most discouraged and read some of them about ." Keep moving, walk, etc; " I pick myself up off the couch and dust myself off and start MOVING. It is most inspiring. It is really the one thing that is entirely up to you and I must move forward or I will go backwards. Thanks for all you who inspire us.
