Does anyone else experience hiccups upon waking or intermittently through the day? Mine are just 2 or 3 deep ones & then done for maybe couple hours or more.

Hi, Beezy B,

I had this problem daily for 4 years until it got so painful I couldn't stand it. Every doctor I asked about it just pretty much ignored it or suggested I take a prescription med daily whose name escapes me right now, which I didn't want to do. Finally I ended up with a gastroenterological surgeon who diagnosed a hiatal hernia. He said that the hiccups were caused by the movement of the top of my stomach up and down through the hernia into my chest cavity. As my stomach entered my chest cavity, I would hiccup.

He performed surgery to close up the hernia and it cured the hiccups immediately. Of course, the surgery wasn't for the hiccups, it was to treat GERD, but it had the side effect of treating the hiccups. Color me thankful!! Good luck with yours! They can be really painful if they're bad.
