What we were told by a Dr that participated in the trials: release date isMonday Feb 23 (in the United States ). Rytary is a new form of sinemet not a new drug. It is a better time release formula that should require taking it fewer times per day, not necessarily fewer pills. The dosage will need to be figured out, the 2 forms are not equal in dosages. I hope that this helps you.

What kind of problems? I had dyskinesia so bad it about drove me crazy!

in reply to Beemacs

i would feel a cold sweat up my back then my right hand would feel like it was swollen it then would become stiff and unresponsive

i felt weak and could hardly walk

all this would happen in just a minute or so

it would last from 2 to 5 hours it would stop just as sudden as t stared and i would feel great

this was happening from 1 to 3 times daily

i also had issues with speech

they ran a ct scan mri blood test ekg all negative

rytary worked great for the first few months and then these things happen

i am now on sinemet and entacapone and doing great i take them 5 times a day

I have found that vigorous exercise helps a lot to relieve symptoms and help with flexibility

I do crossfit 3 to 5 times a week

when i workout i do not think about parkinson's and have no symptoms

don't give up i am doing better today than 5 years ago

i work 40 hours a week, travel, and rebuild cars with my son he turned 40 this year

What a great inspiration you are on the benefits of staying healthy. My husband was diagnosed at 35. 8 years now, he's still actively running everyday. Funny you said when you work out, you don't think of PD. same thing with my husband. Amazingly in the morning, he can run without even taking his first dose. I believe staying fit has helped him tremendously.

He just started taking rytary. We had very high hopes it was going to be the magic pill. The good thing is when it works, it works great, up to 5 hours. But if it doesn't work, it completely doesn't work! Also dyskinesia was significantly decreased with rytary compared to sinemet.

He is in such a dilemma. He is still actively working & travels. He's only been on rytary for a week. He's feeling frustrated coz it works erratically. But he doesn't want to do sinemet because of the dyskinesia.

Sinemet is a little more reliable. But giving rytary one week is not enough time.

in reply to Healthyangel

how much and how often

i took 2 pills 4 times a day

it works better and better over time

in reply to Healthyangel

watch what he eats when it does not work

keep a log

high protein meals can block it

milk blocked it in me

take it two hours before or after meals to see if it works better

running is great

crossfit will help him stay limber

it will improve his knees over time (if he has problem now)

my back use to hurt any time i bent over for more than a few minutes now it takes a hour of so before it starts to bother me

my knees would crack and pop and hurt when i first started but after a few months they are in perfect shape

crossfit it is a full body workout different every day

they adjust the workout of the day (wod) to match his level of fitness

i can now run 3/4 mile vs 1/4 mile when i started

dead lift 350lbs

press 175lbs

back squat 255 lbs

the wod for this day was 10 rounds of the following as fast as possible

1 clean and jerk 150 lbs bar bell (10)

5 Pull Ups (50)

10 Push Ups (100)

15 Squats (150)

before we do the wod

we ran 400 meters

did 30 full squats

jump rope 150 times

30 pull ups

and stretch

and 3 round max of hanging power cleans

i did 150 lbs

I'm so glad you are doing better! I've never been on entacapone that I can remember anyway! I gave up on the Rytary, tried sinemet cr 50/200 & gave up on that, too. I take 1/2 sinemet 25/100 about every 3 hours, 1 azilect, 1 requip & about 3 amantadines. I still get dyskinesia which drives me crazy but the not moving does, too!

i take 2 and a half sinemet and 1 entacapone every 4 hours

the requip may be your problem it made me do all kinds of movements

it seems to me you are taking a lot of different meds

for me i think 1 med at at a time would be a better choice

that way you could tell which one helps the best and which one is causing the problem

why so many different meds

They just keep adding them. I've been on all 3 for years. I think the Rytary & c/l cr was what caused the most problems.
