I was diagnosed with Parkinsons about 7 years ago. My main medication at the present time is Stalevo,, which I take 5 times a day. I also take one Requip. Recently my meds have not been lasting as long. I usually take my first Stalevo at 7a.m. and my Requip at about 9.30 a.m. I would be interested to know when other people take their Requip.
Requip: I was diagnosed with Parkinsons... - Cure Parkinson's
Requip
Even when Requip XL, the slow release one, was my husband's only drug therapy he noticed highs and lows in his symptoms.
When he started on Sinnemet it seemed for a while that the lows seemed to happen at together, at the same time.
He takes Sinemt at 7.30 am, 12.30pm and 6 pm. His Requip XL and Azilect he takes at 10 am.
Stalevo kicks in at around 40 minutes and lasts anything between 3 and 4 hours. Requip tds is also shorter acting than XL although XL can also run down at 20hours. Try moving the requip to night time.
APO-Levocarb Carbidopa / Levodopa
4 doses x 2 tablets (25 mg - 100mg each tablet)
7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm
PMS-Ropinirole ( REQUIP)
4 doses x 2 tablets ( 2 mg each tablet)
7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm
PMS-Amantadine
2 doses x 1 capsule (100 mg each capsule)
7am, 11am ( reduces drowsiness caused by Requip)
My hubby takes his 8 mg requip at night before he goes to bed. It helps him roll over in his sleep, also when he can't sleep he gets up and moves to the recliner. Something he would not be able to do without the requip..
within 3 ours of bed time for me
I take carbo/levo (half 50/100) about every 3 hours. I used to take Requip in the morning 1st thing then my neuro said some people take it in the afternoon so I've been doing that for several months. I don't know if it makes any difference though.
My OH was diagnosed 18months ago but had been unwell for a long time. He is 67 how old are you? my OH has 4 x stavelo a day - 2 x amantadine a day - 1 x azilect @ night and 1 x neuropatch a day for his PD.
He was doing great but has started with rapid movements of his arms mainly. i ask him if he has wearing off periods but he seems not to?? Is it true that the meds can start to have less affect after a certain period?
My OH has a fabulous Neuro (private) he has told my husband to make the best of the next 5 years??? I am hoping he is just preparing him incase things get worse all of a sudden. You obviously have a lot more experience then us due to your 7 years of PD.
Is your Neuro aware of your meds wearing off? is he a good Specialist? has he got your interest at heart? because they are not all experienced as some PD specialists and is he specialised in movement disorder?
I am not as geared up as PD sufferers obviously because I dont have PD but I spend 24/7 with my husband and want to know as much as possible about PD and its sufferers. I am not sure which med requip is? or is that the generic name? xxx
