Deepakpandi,

I have also suffered from quite severe lower back pain for the last few years - it's worse first thing when I get up. I have been told by my Parkinsons nurse that this is a common symptom of PD. I have recently started to get stiff shoulders and upper back too.

So I am cycling more and have recently started going to Dru Yoga classes. I had my first session last week and it helped greatly with my balance. Not sure if it helps with the back pain though but I've also been taking the time to have a good stretch in the morning. I will try to monitor back pain and let you know if it helps.

I occasionally get a back massage but I find it gives me brief relief only.

I would rather exercise than go for further medication - see the recent post re. injections for back pain and the possible complications it caused. There is a lot of information 'out there' about medical marijuana and pain relief but this isn't an option for a lot of people.

I am 48.

I have physiotherapy for my back and do the floor exercises described here sites.google.com/site/beaux...

As I understand it; Contracting back muscles can prevent the spinal discs replenishing their fullness to inhibit their cushion effect, and decompressing the spine lifts pressure off the nerves in the lower lumber region. The exercises have cured my Sciatica.

Hope this helps - but consult your doctor first to make sure they are right for you.

I've had the shoulder pains. I highly recommend the M.E.L.T. exercises using a foam half roller and rubber balls for self - massage. I'm sure you can google it. But "consult your doctor first to make sure they are right for you." Feel better.

Try sleeping on a soft mattress. Using a memory foam pad might help. It solved my problem.

Pain is part of PD for the majority of people. Meds and execise are probably the best treatment.

Sometimes magnesium helps. You can try magnesium food supplements, magnesium massage oil or magnesium salt in a hot bath.
