Who works with PdD and if not , what do y... - Cure Parkinson's
Who works with PdD and if not , what do you do to fill up your day?I watch way too much TV
hi rick, im a flight attendant and work long hours. ive had PD for 8 yrs. its hard sometimes but if i sit around it make me feel worse mentally a physically. i do yard work when im home or my house work. i really try and push myself to do things even if im not feeling good. the more i do the better i feel about everything. if i sit around a lot i feel really stiff and makes it harder to feel motivated. i figure im going to hurt anyways so im going to do what i enjoy doing and not give into it.. i sleep with a heating pad at night and hot showers relax me. its not easy at times. do you have a yard to work in? if i dont have anything to do, i like antiques so at times i will get out and walk around an antique mall and just look around but just to get out of the house is good for me. what do you enjoy doing?
Hi, I stopped working in July last year at the age of 50. I find my day goes quick - cleaning, ironing, washing, walking dog, shopping etc etc ........but I do everything much slower than I did previously so my days go much quicker. x
Hi Rick,
i was off work for 6mts , just went back 3 weeks ago , finding it just a wee bit hard , although i dont feel tierd ny shaking is worse, i dont sleepto good mostly only 2 hrs a night if lucky, when i was off my days went quite fast, i done all the house work and belive me i did , ironing ,hovering washing the whole nine yards , and now back at work i find iam still doing all this, well no one said it would be a blast , Laraine's loving it and this is from a woman who has had breckfast in bed every day for all our married years ,

Do 3 things
First do something nice for someone else every day. A simple word of praise. Or "play it forward". It comes back around
Second do something physical that you ENJOY. Find something...walk or garden or yoga. At least 5 days a week for 30 minutes
Third do something that requires your brain. Read. Or work puzzles or play bridge or take a class at least 4 days a week
Do all three and you can change your view of YOUR life
I retired a long time ago. I am now 76 and consider it important to keep my brain active.
I am involved in local politics and I design and put together our local newsletters - I am computer literate and use desktop publishing software to do this. I also print them.
I am also involved with our local environmental group trying to reduce our village carbon footprint. Again, I design and produce our "green" newsletter.
For recreation I do logic puzzles, read, watch sport on TV, enjoy music.
Not a bad life - but a busy one.
I work full-time for the local authority,in fact, I just had a promotion despite having Parkinson's. It takes a lot of my time and the rest of it is spent doing a degree in children with special needs.
I love to read, but other than at bedtime. When I read my Kindle, I don't seem to have much time. When I finish my degree in June, I'm looking forward to having more time to sit and read.
I really can't be bothered with the television these days, I prefer the house to be quiet.
I admire you hard-working people. Now that I am retired I do very little and am perfectly content! I spend time on-line, write, and exercise in the mornig. In the afternnoon I take a long walk and ususally haveto rest in bed for [erhaps 2 hours.
I do the laundry and soem of the shopping, clean up this and that, write my poems, and go out to sing with my friends from timr to t ime. I read too.
I watch TV some but I don't vege out in front of the tube. I prefer the radio.
Thanks everyone for their comments. I am a disabled (retired) lawyer. I used to play bridge but I found that between holding the cards and sitting still for 3 1/2 hours on the bridge chairs was too much. I play a lot of scrabble and ride a stationary bike each day for an hour, but I miss the action of goal setting and achievment whether it was golf or in business. Still bored.
Rick, my neuro told me the best advice he could give me is "exercise." I feel like I have a full time job exercising 6 days a week. Between that and normal household activities, I feel like there isn't enough time in the day to get everything done. I'm not a tv person. It's always on for the noise; but rarely do I ever sit down and watch it. I am fatigued a lot lately and have to take rest breaks during the day. I always seem to somehow fill my day; but you're right....bored.

I watch way to much T,V, I also keep a clean house, cook ,iron,do laundry, occasionally I do yard work. I do not miss my job at all, but, I do miss being as active as before. Gone are the days of Sundays at Disneyland.
