Hi davidedwards. I feel sure that all forms of exercise help Pd. The best exercise is walking for one hour, three times a week, with one day's rest in between each walk, so that your muscles have a chance to recover from the previous day's exercise. You don't say how many minutes you exercise each time, but be careful of overexercising! Don't try to start doing one hour, if you have not done hard walking for a long time. Try starting with ten minutes and increase that by a further five minutes every second week.

Good luck.

John

I agree. The stationary bike works wonders. For me, I am a runner so 10-15 miles a week works miracles, but going back to the bike, is the easiest to adapt to!

Whenever my dyskensia or dystonia kicks in, I feel like I am being jerked around, and it is very uncomfortable. I get on my stationary bike and ride it for 15 minutes. It seems to lesson the movement . Also when I ride the bike, I am controlling the movement, the movement is not controlling me, and I feel a lot more comfortable.

When I first noticed symptoms - and my husband diagnosed PD...(a couple of months later the neuro did, also) I purchased a exer-bike. It is just the pedals and it is electric - makes me pedal faster than I normally would - I LOVE IT! It helps so much. If I am ever feeling stiff - it helps. It helps with the small handwriting. I also swim twice a week for about 35 minutes each time. I use the bike whenever I'm sitting at the computer.
