I found this online:

GENERIC NAME: RIMANTADINE - ORAL BRAND NAME: Flumadine

DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Rimantadine is a synthetic (man-made) anti-viral drug that can prevent viruses in cells from multiplying. To prevent a viral infection, the drug should be started before exposure to the virus. Clearly, this is not practical for most viral infections. Rimantadine initially was used to prevent influenza A during flu season, and, if given within 24 to 48 hours after the onset of flu symptoms, to decrease the severity of the flu. Rimantadine is chemically related to amantadine (Symmetrel), but rimantadine has fewer side effects on the nervous system than amantadine. Rimantadine was approved for use in 1993.

GENERIC AVAILABLE: no

PRESCRIPTION: yes

PREPARATIONS: Tablets: 100mg

Abstract

We report our experience with 7 consecutive patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) who received rimantadine (the alpha-methyl derivative of amantadine) in substitution of amantadine due to peripheral side effects (lower limb edema, livedo reticularis). Mean age was 67.3 +/- 5.9 years, the mean disease duration was 13 +/- 6.3 years, and mean Hoehn and Yahr stage was 2.2 +/- 0.4. A total of 3 patients experienced marked improvement of edema, and 1 patient experienced marked improvement of livedo reticularis. Only 1 of the 7 patients reported significant loss of motor benefit when amantadine was replaced with rimantadine. Our results demonstrate that rimantadine may be considered as an alternative to amantadine in patients experiencing amantadine-induced peripheral side effects.

Hi y'all, in other words ; no one has used rimantadine 4 the treatment of parkinsons disease. So I shouldn't try this dug at home, w/o some type of medical experience or observation, in case of allergic episode. This is basically what my dr. sent me home with a script 4 it. He was too bzy to observe me ,during my 4 day hospital, which is y I was admitted 4 in the first place. I was apprehensive 2 begin with. Thanx, that's all I wanted to no.
