I was diagnosed with Parkinson's, two years ago, at the age of 59. I have had a prism in my glasses for about 10 years. I could check with my optometrist to confirm exactly when. I was "seeing double" when going from "close" work like reading or working on the computer to "far" work, especially driving. My optometrist explained that the muscles in one eye did not respond as quickly to the change in focal point, as did the muscles in the other eye. It is an interesting question to explore...have other PWP's experienced double-vision resulting from this lack of co-ordinated response between eyes, either pre or post-diagnosis?

Yes, if you can see the other responses I got...I guess this eye specialist is correct then...he is the angel who discovered my husband's PD in the first place. Since the muscles are affected by PD it would make sense that eye muscles also are affected. My husband had many years of problems and we spent a fortune getting glasses, but the misalignment was always there...till this Dr. discovered the PD and then prescribed the prism adjustment to the glasses...his vision is fine now. only needs the glasses for driving.

Well I would not simply just accept that diagnosis because I had both my cataracts done and the right one was a complete success but something went wrong during the left one (i suspect that the surgeon let a trainee do part of the op - without my agreement - and he had to rectify whatever she had done wrong). There was a fair bit of controlled panic going on and ever since I have been getting treatment for high left eye pressure

No, thankfully, the surgery was a complete success...the prism glasses are only for driving...no glasses needed otherwise. This Dr is the angel who discovered the PD initially.

My PD husband has some double vision related to PD, not cataract surgery. He tried prism lenses but didn't find them comfortable or very helpful. Now he patches one eye to read and that seems to work fine.

Yes, the double vision came after the surgery which prompted the change in the glasses...only for driving..seems the one eye was just the least bit off kilter from the other one...he had had many years of problems with glasses that were misaligned...that was the reason.....doctor said the PD was the cause. Thanks for you response
