Hi - I have been aware of the stages of PD since being diagnosed 'officially' in 2004 (misdiagnosed in 1992 with Lupus). Here is how WebMD states each stage:

Parkinson's disease stages include:

Stage one: During this initial phase of the disease, a patient usually experiences mild symptoms. These symptoms may inconvenience the day-to-day tasks the patient would otherwise complete with ease. Typically these symptoms will include the presence of tremors or experiencing shaking in one of the limbs.

Also during stage one, friends and family can usually detect changes in the Parkinson's patient including poor posture, loss of balance, and abnormal facial expressions.

Stage two: In the second stage of Parkinson's disease, the patients symptoms are bilateral, affecting both limbs and both sides of the body. The patient usually encounters problems walking or maintaining balance, and the inability to complete normal physical tasks becomes more apparent.

Stage three: Stage three symptoms of Parkinson's disease can be rather severe and include the inability to walk straight or to stand. There is a noticeable slowing of physical movements in stage three.

Stage four: This stage of the disease is accompanied by severe symptoms of Parkinson's. Walking may still occur, but it is often limited and rigidity and bradykinesia are often visible. During this stage, most patients are unable to complete day-to-day tasks, and usually cannot live on their own. The tremors or shakiness that take over during the earlier stages however, may lessen or become non-existent for unknown reasons during this time.

Stage five: The last or final stage of Parkinson's disease usually takes over the patients physical movements. The patient is usually unable to take care of himself or herself and may not be able to stand or walk during this stage. A patient at stage five usually requires constant one-on-one nursing care.

*** I think if you have PD, it depends on what kind of day you're having as to what stage you could 'really' be in. :) However, it makes sense for the most part. Lots to look forward to. NOT. :) You can check out their website at webmd.com/parkinsons-diseas....

the range is usually has 1-5 stages different for all people. stage 1 usually syptoms are more mild, tremor one one side affecting usually 1 limb maybe a little loss of balance at times. hope this helps you understand more of what stage you may be in, you can also skip stages.. if you have had dbs it sounds like your in last stages. google the stages to help you see what they are talking about.

I certainly have never heard of PD in stages except early onset and the other kind we oldsters have. Anxious to hear the answer to that one! Jennyr

Hi Export.I am stage 1. you asked for a laugh so here is a comedic look at my typical Stage 1 day.

Dear Diary, it is 3:45 am and I'm wide awake but am having difficulty getting out of bed.It was cold last night so I put on Flannel sheets and a flannel nightie. Note to self-wear satin PJs when using flannel sheets so you don't stick to the bed like Bible school felt board figures.

Dear Diary, it's 8 am and i managed to use my headboard to pry myself out of bed. I have a new bruise because that my left arm no longer swings so I move like a boat with a rudder stuck on turn. The shower felt wonderful but getting out was fun when my left foot froze, Glad I bought that gel bath mat as it softened my fall.My bra only took 15 minutes to put on today. Screw you Playtex.

Dear Diary,it's 10 am. I'm working on a presentation. One handed typing isn't so bad. My cat enjoys the left hand tremor. He thinks he is being patted.

Dear Diary it is noon. Time for round two meds. Why am I thinking about gambling, chocolate and sex? Back to work after I ride my Exercycle

Dear Diary, 3pm and Ellen is on TV. I danced with Ellen until my son came in and told me that I looked like an epileptic on crack..

Dear Diary,it is 6pm and I changed into my satin PJs early.@#!$% button on my jeans. Guess I need to pay more attention to my bladder.

Dear Diary, It's 10 pm and I want to sleep but my left foot is keeping time to some music that only my toes can hear.OMG now my left leg is doing the Rumba.

Dear Diary, goodnight I just took enough pills to choke a horse. No I'm not attempting suicide. It's just my night time dose..

Jerebet--not funnny, but it did make me laugh and smile. Probably because I, and others, can relate to parts of your day.

We are going to Cancun for a week tomorrow and I am hopeful that I have more good than bad "Dear Diary" days. :o)

Search the web for the stages of PD. I TAUGHT SCHOOL FOR 32 YEARS.

I TOLD MY STUDENT THAT THE ONLY STUPID QUESTION WAS THE ONE YOU DID NOT ASK BECAUSE YOU NEVER FOUND OUT THE ANSWER.

I was diagnosed stage II with some stage III symptoms, my doc said some will call it 2.5. My first symptoms started in 2004, I was not diagnosed until 2011.

Yes. I was told I was at stage one plus when I was diagnosed. Now , five years later I was judged stage two. There are five stages.
