I have arthritis in my right index and middle finger. The pain in the index finer is excruciating at times. Anyone else suffering from this? Any suggestions? I live in the UK, no joy from GP.
I personally think it stems from repetitive strain, as I was a primary school teacher.

Hello arthritis18. Treatment of this sort of pain is usually pain relief and exercise. I have the same problem in my hands and feet, and when my foot problem started 25 years or so ago I started Glucosamine with Chondroitin. I think it helps my fingers as well. Lots of people rub balm into their hands - ask your pharmacist.
I was recently given finger exercises to do my a physio but have only been doing them for a few days so no joy as yet. These need to be specific to your particular problem as you don’t want to strengthen the wrong muscles.
Good websites are Versus Arthritis and Arthritis Action.
In my area if we have musculoskeletal issues and want physio on the NHS we self-refer, so this option might be available to you.
I have finger pain also in 2 fingers on both hands. I do finger exercises, use a gel for pain and Gabapentin. I sometimes wear tight arthritic gloves to bed which really help. Also try heat and alternate with ice for 20 min on and off and see if that helps. The gloves are copperfit. You can find them in stores or online. Good luck, it can be so painful
Hi. Have you ever been checked for carpal tunnel syndrome? It is a repetitive movement issue and can often effect certain fingers. I am by no means an expert but I let mine go for several years and the pain became incredible. I had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery at the same time. Best decision ever! Best of luck!
