I really need help losing weight. Since I've been diagnosed officially, September 2014, I've gained 30 pounds and 20 before that. I am trying to eat correctly more than not. Exercise when I can, but not like I use to due to fatigue, pain etc. I know if I lost these 50 pounds it would help everthing. I counted calories for 2 months and stayed around 1200 calories and lost about 3 pounds. Any suggestions? Thank you

I have heard great things about Low Carb ways of eating. I started on Monday, and haven't been hungry for bread, sweets, etc. (And I was addicted to sugar and carbs). It's easy to start and stay on, maybe you can try that? Good luck!

Eat the whole fruit and stay away from fruit juices. Eat plenty of veg and reduce your fat & oil intake. There is plenty of omega-3 just in vegetables.

My rheumatologist put me on a very strict diet for remissiom and weight loss - all vegetables, except potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Fatty fishes, such as salmon, etc. and egg whites. No sugar - including fruit and no carbs. He allows chicken and/or beef 1x per month, and a dessert 1x per month. It's a tough diet, but it helped me lose ~20lbs in 3 months and put me in remission for about 6 months. Unfortunately, I didn't stick to it, and gained the weight back and am experiencing pain again. I am giving it another try this year.

Also, there is a program called fundamental eating I'm looking into.

I to have packed on the pounds recently and also know if i take the weight off i will feel much better. I recently got a cheap juicer and bought some frozen fruit blends. I add in an an extra orange for vitamin C to help boost imune system and only add water to get desired consistancy. Cravings are down my skin looks better i feel full and most inportant 5lbs gone in 2 weeks. If i can give up my mountain dew i am certain that number would have doubled. I still eat a sensible dinner and sometimes even a light lunch. Most inportant thing is to not add stress it will only add weight on and seems to make flare ups more severe. Good luck find what works for u.

Been there, done that! My savior was Mother Nature in the form of The Anti-Inflammatory Diet; see the book by Jessica K. Black, N.D. -- on Amazon for $12.55. Best money you'll ever spend; best commitment you'll ever make -- reduction in pain & weight are incentive & reward in one! I have lost 145 pounds, am off all Big Pharmaceuticals except 10 mg. Prednisone daily, & feel better than I have in ten years! Good luck! Hope this helps. 💖

Congratulations. I'Lloyd look into the book. I'm very interested. Question: you mentioned daily prednisone; are there side effects? My rheumatologist puts me on prednisone packs as needed as she has concerns regarding its affects on bone density and also hair los.

There are side effects for most meds. My 10mg per day dose is pretty low, and I believe, the most effective anti-inflammatory. NSAIDS rip up the gut, and a healthy gut is half the battle. Because RA is an inflammatory disease, treatment without an ant-inflammatory med is useless and damaging (speaking from experience). "Let food be thy medicine, and thy medicine be food." is working well for me. YOU are the most important factor in your healing.Sticlass up for yourself, and stick with the diet -- the reduction in pain and flares is worth it! YOU CAN DO IT ALL!

I feel like I'm in the same boat. I have tried to lose weight and jump on the scales and only lose a pound or two in a week. I'm really starting to think it is the Enbrel or methotrexate. I am so frustrated. How to do feel?
