Bit high for a resting HR... :) Assuming you were running that's about what I'd expect. But if you're concerned, see your GP.

I'm about the same age and 3 stones overweight. In week one after the runs my heartbeat was 173. In the following weeks my heart beat was around 165 at the end of the runs. I did a 10 minute run yesterday and it was 172 at the end of the run. However, I have always felt fine and had no symptoms other than being out of breath. Hope this helps.

It wouldn't hurt to check with your GP before undertaking strenuous exercise if you haven't already done so, although most doctors these days are keen to see their patients becoming more active.

Good luck with the programme and listen to your body.

I'm (almost) 55, 4.5 stone overweight with high BP and type 2 diabetes. When I asked my GP about undertaking C25K (albeit I was already two weeks into it but didn't mention that) he was almost handing me my running shoes and pushing me down the road to my running area. If you are concerned about your heart rate ask the specific question of your GP. I'm sure my HR is up there during/immediately after running but I seem to recover quite quickly.

Best of luck.
