Hi, what are people's thoughts re couch to 5k ... - Couch to 5K
Hi, what are people's thoughts re couch to 5k using the treadmill if weather is too dire to go out? Is it considered acceptable? Thanks x
Yes I would say it is . What's the alternative , it's better than not doing any runs at all . Ive not been able to run tonight because of weather , if gym had have been open I would have used treadmill tonight ( not keen of it though) .
I'm completing the whole programme on a treadmill, don't think it matters really, you're building up strength and stamina. Once I've graduated, I hope to go out on the road. Good luck.
Is also did the whole programme on the treadmill.its ok and I've been told that it is easier on you're joints?Get some good music and you will be fine. You can also see what speed you are going at.good luck x
Thank you all - we've bought a second hand treadmill - I think my main concern is that it's not a true representation of terrain when I step out my door lol. But I suspect that's where the inclines come in. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I will make one of my 3 weekly runs outside on a Saturday when I can go during the daylight and the other week day runs on my treadmill. Good luck to you all also in your own individual achievements. Ps I've lost 5lbs this week really happy I'm on the right road xx
The doc told me to always use my treadmill on an incline to protect my dodgy knees. That may not apply to you, but using it on an incline, or better still varying the incline (sometimes routines are programmed in), will definitely help when transferring back outside. Personally, I do tend to run outside in all weathers now as I find it so much less boring than the treadmill, but come the ice and snow there will be little choice. Congratulations on your weight loss. Keep up the good work!
Always run on an incline of at least + 1% - it'll help protect your joints and will help to replicate the resistance of running outside. I did the whole of Couch to 5k on a treadmill and still do my thrice weekly runs on one. I ran outside ONCE. It's not a cheat or something to be sneered at - each to their own and yes, in an ideal world, we'd all be running outside but like everyone says, a run (good, bad or ugly) is better than no run at all.
Why not mix it up so that you are able to do both. Fine days get out there, bad days dreadmill days - - oopppsss sorry, its my name for them, never really enjoy using them at the gym after over a year of trying to get to grips with them.
Lol - it's the boredom factor. When I was a member of David Lloyds many years ago the folks swimming used to hold my attention as the treadmills surrounded the pool. But yes you are right the key is to work with the weather and the daylight. Thanks though - made me laugh
Not much help here with me I tried and failed, just could not jog on the treadmill, but I hope your are successful.
Doing the treadmill or outside running counts in your training towards the 5k..
I used to get off the dreadmill and nearly fall over I felt as if I had been at sea for months on end, sea legs etc. Then someone told me you have to slow down very gradually and slowly which does help if the boredom hasn't killed me first
I enjoy running on the treadmill although I occasionally run outside (very hilly where I live).
