It’s hot out there! How are you managing to fit your runs in? Setting the alarm earlier than usual? Are you out with the stars? Have you moved indoors to enjoy the air con? Tell us what’s working for you while the sun shines!

Depends on the day/mood. I work nights so after my shift is perfect running time temp wise. I’m off for a run tonight though cos the day time is far too hot. I threw caution to the wind a few days ago and ran in 25 degree heat and had low key heat stroke by the end.

same here! I couldn't believe it.

It doesn’t feel right to try in this heat! I just can’t get up at dawn to run although I love the thought of doing so.

As this isn't a top secret vote I voted "I run earlier than usual"

I haven't changed as I run at silly O' clock in the morning anyway. If I didn't, I would have been out much earlier rather than later. Far fewer biting beasties and the day is scrubbed clean.

Both for me...later in the evening on the 2 work day runs but early on a Saturday.

I say early, up at 7.15, out at 7.45 is super early for me on a weekend (usually 9.30ish) but it's still too warm...need to be an earlier bird and go at 6am I think, but I love my bed and can't quite convince myself to get up at 5 something, that's still night time to me 😭😅

Maybe pigs will fly this weekend & I'll bounce out of bed at 5.30am 😉

I'm still running at lunch time because I clearly hate myself 🤣 I've done a few early ones recently but only due to scheduling issues

A really interesting poll to do, thank you!

I'm such a newbie and have tended to run early - either before school drop off or just after, depending on how awful my sleep has been. So nothing has changed so far...

Crack of dawn for me! First couple of runs were at 5:30am, then 5am and now I’m out the door for 4am!

Got my alarm set for 3am for tomorrows run so I’ll be heading to bed at 8pm tonight! I’m feeling quite tired anyway, just took my meds and I’ll be well ready for bed soon 🥱

can’t believe that you set an alarm for 3am for a run!

I know 🙈 haha 😂 but I didn’t even need my alarm, was awake before it!

Always run first thing and when it is hot, I inhale fewer bugs than evening runs…

I always prefer to run early in the morning.

It's not healthy for me to exercise under serious heat.

Running about half an hour earlier in the morning. No alarm needed- too hot and sunny to sleep in. ☀️😊

It depends on life really, early works good some days (before 7am) or late works other days (7pm) and fits in with my running clubs outings.

Crolla profile image

I tend to run in the morning anyway at around 8am an hour after my first cuppa, but if it's going to be really hot then I'll run at 7am and have a cuppa when I get home!

I clicked on “I don’t change anything” as I run usually around 5:30am all year round 😀

Early, partly because the cat seems to have an inbuilt alarm clock around the 5am time during the summer months and if we don't get up, he has this habit of swiping me around the face 😂 until I do get up, and also I prefer to run before eating anything.

I run early in the day and haven’t changed that. I find early mornings are ideal for minimising heat while running, I don’t have to think about timing meals, showering, etc. to co-ordinate with running, it’s quiet, there are some great sunrises and views, and I’ve recharged my bod overnight. I have a half litre or more of cold water, do my pre-exercise stretches, warm-up walk, then run, cool down walk, post-exercise stretches then shower, all before the day comes rushing in…

Got to be honest, I just can’t cope with the heat so won’t run again till it’s a bit cooler. Thankfully I live in Scotland. It it’s been unnaturally hot here this past week. Off to Isle of Islay for a week tomorrow and it should be a few degrees lower there.

So I’m afraid you need a “I just don’t” option for me

A tad earlier for me... I am alwyas before 8... unless I wake late which is rare... But these mornings...the sun creeping in through the curtains... the call is great!

Come and run it says,,, or I will get you later :) x

Went out later today because I haven't been out for 2 weeks for lots of little reason a ( All under 8). Was about 10:30 and I didn't want to move. What a struggle and only managed 4K. Next time it's an up and out job

I run to complete my run before 7am or I have to wait for the late evening. My energy levels are better in the morning though. And of course parkruns are 9am and I’m already finding them too hot now. My least favourite running conditions.

I'm still running at lunchtime or early evening. Yes it's hot as hell but I haven't died yet, just sweated a lot.

Going into the forest rather than pounding the streets as it is much cooler. I'm still a 6am-er.

It's very warm all year round here but hotter in the summer months. I think I've acclimatized now and run at the same time all year - in the evening, but it can still be over 25ºC. I do seem to slow down when it's gets warmer though. If the temperature goes into the 30s or even 40s when there's a heatwave I avoid running altogether.

I run whenever suits me, but very rarely first thing, as I don't function well in the mornings. Never inside - I don't own a treadmill and refuse to drive nearly 25km (each way) to torment myself in a hellishly noisy gym.

Dexy5 profile image

I always plan to get up really early but it doesn’t seem to happen quite that way. I’ve managed about an hour earlier, but given that races and parkrun are from 9.00 onwards I think that it’s wise to train in those conditions.

Running in the evening is certainly not a preferred option, as the whole of Portsmouth seems to be descending on the promenade in the evenings in this warm weather and it certainly wouldn’t be a fun run.

Whoops, I just realised this is the C25K forum. I must add that I am a graduate and have been running 5 years in all weathers.

I can’t run before work and it’s too warm after work, and I don’t have air con so I’ve been walking instead. I get out early- ish over the weekend

Zev1963 profile image
Zev1963Graduate

Mostly I don't change anything. I cover my pale skin to avoid being burned. After a few days your body aclimatises to the higher temperatures, this has the advantage that your non running time is less bothered by the heat. I do try to avoid the middle of the day for my long run on Sunday, mainly because I want to avoid dehydration, on runs of less than and hour I just drink water before I run.

I've done all my runs early in the morning (before 7am) which is great at this time of year.

I’ve been finding it really tough in this heat, only managing 1 or 2 times a week and ticking over with 3k runs. Managed to get out the door 6.45 this morning and did my first 5k for a couple of weeks. Usually run mid morning. Great post, keep cool folks!😊

i usually like to run at 9am in the morning s in the week and at 10am at the weekend, however i have had to change this to running first at 8am then today i got out at 7am which was a lovely run - so i voted for "earlier than usual"

Actually this week I've run at 7 am and 8 pm, so I can't really answer the question! Hoping to do Week 7 run 3 at around 8 to 8:30 pm today as I had an appointment at 8 am. Would have much preferred to do it early though!

I'm getting up at 5.30 so I'm out by 6 where as before I'd be up at 5.45 and out by 6.30 / 7. As marathon training long runs get longer I'll get up earlier. My friend milks every day at 4am so I never feel unusual. I can always message her then for a chat 😂
