I wonder if a lot of the others would be β€˜nothing’. Or perhaps only eaters of breakfast will take part?

Not all runners do a morning run hence β€˜pre run’ fuel. What was yours plodplod?

I don’t eat before so chose β€˜other’

Me too... couldn't face anything before a 6am run.

Same here. Though it's a bit harder on 10k days, and I always must have at least 300ml water before heading out!

I have half a banana before - half straight after (usually whilst checking Strava stats!). Then shower/breakfast etc.

My favourite fuel is not to eat breakfast until I’ve finished, I use it as an incentive I think. I vary it loads, yoghurt and or toast with honey, and or banana, and or cereal. And or boiled eggs if the chickens have cooperated. I also vary times of runs to suit weather and mood but that won’t be possible for everyone.

Have a herbal tea first then cereal when home. Allergic to 🍌🍌 so when at the end of the run she tells me to have one I think she wants me dead πŸ’€

Sliced banana and peanut butter on toasted brown bread. Very tasty and full of fuel πŸ’ͺ🏻

Ah I see! Your first emailinmyinbox asks specifically for pre-run breakfast, then it looks like you changed it to pre run fuel. I answered the β€˜breakfast’ Q you set. My fault. Your second version much better. β€˜Other’ includes β€˜nothing’ which makes for interesting results!

due to my schedule the only chance i get to run is first thing in the morning before work. i dont feel i can have anything but relish the post run porridge

I don't eat anything pre-run but do drink a pint of water. I found eating before a run made me feel sick or I got a stitch. I get up at 6:00am and run at 6:15am so not really time to eat and let it go down a bit, even if I did want to eat beforehand.

We're running twins! I have the same schedule and same water consumption (not sure if it's a pint, but it's certainly a nice big glass..) I find that if I eat, I need to leave much more time before I run.

I run when I am chilled.Either

Morning/ Afternoon/ Early evening.

Always eat as a rule one hour minimum before, but have got more relaxed and confident about fuelling.

Winter mornings porridge with frozen blueberries and natural yogurt.Banana a good in between for before and after longer runs.

Tried to practise good hydration.Sticking just with water.

Together with good sleep and good dynamic warm-up, particularly for shorter distances and post run stretching and warm down, I cannot do anymore.

Oh forgot, if need be I use both arnica or salt bath soaks both when appropriate before or after runs.

Hello Millsie-J

Favourite breakfast is porridge made with two thirds semi skimmed milk one third water (has to be organic) with a handful of chopped dates and chopped roast hazlenuts, topped with flax seed and honey. I set off about an hour after to let it settle down, plus plenty of water. My neighbour can leap out of bed first thing and go running but not me I'm afraid.

Overnight-soaked rolled-oats with raisins, sultanas and blueberries. I use oat-milk to soak it as I don't use milk.

One cup of tea, then breakfast afterwards (or lunch if it's a long run).

Usually run first thing, so just water, then have porridge and banana when I get back.

If its a morning run, I will have my usual cereal of either porridge, special l, or shredded wheat. If it's any other time, I won't eat anything.

I get up, get out and then have breakfast when I get back. Chopped up orange and weetabix.

I'm another first thing in the morning person so it's 2 cups of tea and out, after I've woken up a bit. I've never been one for breakfast so it's just water until lunch time.

Coffee and a nice breakfast of porridge or yogurt with fruit when I get back

I usually run before breakfast, but I have water and a paleo bar before I run and then a small portion of oats, nut, seeds and fruit with hazelnut milk when I get back.

Definitely prefer to run on an empty stomach. I guess that could change if doing longer distance.

I have one of those cycling energy gel sachets and then breakfast when I get back :-)

Madge50 profile image

Normally it’ll be porridge.....but if I’m running early (out by 6-7am) nothing ....i’ll take water and jelly babies with me dependant on the distance planned....

I’m a morning runner too! Some green tea and an orange pre-run, and muesli with greek yoghurt, blueberries and cinnamon afterwards πŸ‘ŠπŸ˜‹ oh and lots more green tea.

I run on empty for a morning run, and an evening run it's just whatever I had for lunch.
