Hi there,

I think that it is still very early days for you and you will still have lots of swelling and and therefore lots recovering to do. Remember this is a big operation you have had done you will need time to rest and recover. If you are still having this pain in a week or so or if it get worse then I would advise that you need to see your stoma care nurse or consultant.

I hope this helps you and if there is anything else that we can help you with then please don't not hesitate in contacting us again.

Kind regards

I have had the same problem this week also. The skin around my stoma got sore and red. It was because the hole in my stoma bag was to big because my stoma had shrunk. My stoma nurse advised me to use the smaller cut bags and to get a powder called Convatec Orahesive S106. apply the powder to the affected area and blow off the excess. Hope this is of some help to you.

Hi there chalmers09 Sorry to hear that you have had sore skin - it happens to us all! After having a stoma for so long I am sure you know what you are doing but yes the powder might be able to help you. Ask your delivery company they might be able to send you a few samples of different things to try. I know you probably already know this but when you put your bag on make sure your skin around the stoma is very dry. Cavilon Barrier film or something similar would also help dry the skin and help the bag stick. If you are using a cream of some sort then you must also make sure that you a wiping off all the excess! I hope this helps and anything else that we can help with then please do not hesitate in coming back to us. Hope your skin get better soon regards Ostomy LIfestyle

That is ok I am just glad that we can help. I would advise though that you do not use sudo creme it is a barrier cream and is made to not let anything stick to it. Ostomy/stoma bags are made with Hydrocolloid which will help the skin to heal. Just the cavilon spray should do the job.

Thanks I really hope this helps Ostomy Lifestyle

Sorry for the late reply - everyone reacts differently to all products. It is very uncommon but it could be that you have a slight allergic reaction to the flange. is your bag leaking at all? how have you been getting on in the past week?
