Wheeled outdoor stool

Could anyone advise me on a suitable wheeled stool for outdoor use please?

Hi R.E.,

Your query has prompted me to Google "wheeled stool for outdoors UK". There do seem to be quite a few products out there, including some robust looking ones with rugged wheels but they do look horribly low for getting onto and (more problematically) up from. I would certainly not manage it. They seem to be marketed for gardeners who have difficulties with bending or kneeling - is that what you want to use it for?

I have to admit my own solution for some years has been to pay a gardener...

Thanks for your reply. It is for gardening, which is something that keeps me sane. Now both ankles are fused, kneeling is a big problem as I never know where to put my toes. I have seen a stool with a tractor seat which looked a bit on the high side for reaching down and I thought I might finish up on my nose in the plants. The lower one with the big plastic wheels looks more suitable, but as you say, getting on and off it could be difficult. It was scooting round my study on a wheeled office chair that gave me the idea that there might be one for outdoor use. At the moment walking as far as my polytunnel leaves me too tired to do any work when I get there, so being able to trundle down to it would help.

I am about to push the button to purchase a Buzzaround heavy duty 4-wheel scooter and a trailer for it. I have uneven ground and a trail through a field with blueberries. Looking forward to getting around and gardening with something more than a walker.

Thanks for your reply. I'll look up the model you are getting. I live on a farm and also grow blueberies. Lately I have been more or less house bound as mobility is very slow to return after surgery and time is passing, weeds are growing and all this good swimming weather is wasted as I canot get to the big pool on the river.

I use one of those 3 wheeled walkers with a fold up seat. I have one in the car for shopping and one for use in the garden. they are expensive but I found one on ebay which was v cheap - the owner had found it wasn't right for her, but it's just right for me

Thanks for the advice, I'll look them up. I'm about to go back today to the surgeon who operated on my ankle in February, as my mobility seems to be getting worse and at the moment gardening is a faint hope.

My husband has a wheeled stool to use when washing, polishing or working on his motorcycle. It scoots around on concrete easily.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. I have bought a strudy wheeled stool from Cooper of Bishop's Stortford which sound similar. It fits the bill for the time being but does struggle with the lawn pocked by badger digging. I cannot use it at the moment as I have just attempted to rip the end off my big toe by catching it in a carpet. Who would think carpets could be so dangerous.

Never underestimate carpets - they can jump up and bite you! Mostly other people's ones though. The local OT would like me to banish all mine, plus the rugs that help to make my house a home. I simply explain that none of my trips have been rug-related and that is very nearly true as I know exactly where they all are. I hope you will soon recover from your surgery as well as the carpet-wound.

I am lucky not to have badgers here. They cause mayhem in a friend's garden.

Is it the comfort garden rider you got? Looks a bit like a tiny motorless tractor, and very robust. I hope it will do what you want and prolong your gardening life a good long time.

Thanks for your emails. Stools are out at the moment as my husband has banned me from using my little plastic buggy in case I damage any other part of me and cause him a long wait in A&E. And I still have a lot of blood to get out of the carpet.....

I'm sorry your husband isn't helping with the getting-blood-out-of-carpet task, especially as you will surely need your new wheeled contraption to get down there....
