I have a new diagnosis of CML went to my hematologist yesterday and he wants to start me on medication. He mentioned several different second generation drugs and said each can have its own side effects from constipation to diarrhea to heart Arrhythmia.

I think I would go for constitutional issues vs heart issues. He’s starting me onSprycel ( dasatinib) after my bone marrow biopsy, I did not realize that these are chemo meds either.

anyone have any experience with these drugs?

I was diagnosed in 2016 with CML. I started out on Imatinib the generic for Gleevec. It made me very nauseous, my hematologist switched me to Sprycel. It through me into a tailspin. I felt like I had the flu within a few days of taking it & had a major depressive episode. She took me off of it for a week & tried a lower dose, with no success. I was then put on Gleevec & was in remission in Jan. of 2019. I am happy to say I am still in remission. Yes, these meds have side effects, but l will take them over not being here.

Congratulation on being in remission. I know the feeling, and it's great. The little pill that keeps us ticking. My little pill is Sprycel.

It is interesting to learn that while the generic Imatinib had to be discontinued because of unacceptable side effects, the branded imatinib= Gleevec, is doing its job and keeping you in remission....makes you wonder; maybe the generics are inferior to the branded meds.

Do you still have any side effects?

Wishing you well,

pigeon.
