Covid isolation exit guidance needed. I have been sick 6 days and on Paxlovid for 4 going on 5

I have W&W U-CLL, and was sick, tested positive for Covid and will soon swallow my last (10th) dose of Paxlovid. It tastes nasty but I do feel much better. I'm visiting family in Paris France, isolating in a nearby studio apartment, and supposed to go home in one week. I felt sick 6 days ago and tested positive 4 days ago and started Paxlovid which quickly made my symptoms retreat, except for night sweats. CDC seems to recommend that we immune compromised isolate for 20 days. Am I understanding the guidance correctly?

When/how do I know I can safely be around others?

When can I safely stop isolating and see my grandsons?

Can anyone recommend a good CLL doctor who speaks English in Paris, France?

Sadly, most of the people I know who took Paxlovid for Covid tested negative at the one week mark, and then had a rebound case that lasted at least another week. These are family members in their 70’s, all with some other health issues but don’t have CLL. My family members who had Covid recently who are younger (30’s and 40’s) got well faster but it was still at least a week.

The newer variants are lesser versions of the earlier ones but still are virulent enough to basically force young, healthy, very fit individuals to bed for several days.

I am sorry you are spending your vacation away from your loved ones. I hope you are feeling better but beware of the rebound! If you do test negative, I would recommend to wear a mask around others and to be careful to not do too much too fast.

Your response was apt. I did test positive again on day 8 following the first round of Paxlovid. I had had 4 or 5 negative tests before this. So I started and finished a second round of Paxlovid, which again made me feel much better, quickly, and was able to fly back to my home, after my first negative test, where I am hoping I am finished with this illness. I will get a PCR test today, to find out where things stand. Thank you for your good information. Good luck everyone, Covid is still lurking out there, be safe.

In the UK it said you can stop isolating after 5 days I had COVID ,took Paxlovid and was almost negative by day 5 and negative by day 8. I isolated for 7 days. I am in W and W and mutated I had the sweats on and off but not only at night I thought they were due to the hot weather. did not get the Paxlovid rebound

Thank you, I am encouraged! I just finished my Paxlovid and feel good. I tested negative but will isolate a little longer till I get more information, since my daughter and her husband both have busy jobs and they have two little boys, one, an infant. I did laundry this morning and noticed that the mattress protector is waterproof. Glad, but also wondering: did this contribute to my night sweats? In any case I am trying to disinfect surfaces and eat wisely. It is a relief to be in this place, hoping the worst is past. Watching and waiting. 😂
