CURE FOR CANCER?

I was diagnosed with CLL, as a result of a blood test, with a white cell count of 4. Each subsequent year I had a blood test and the white cell count went up by 2 units reaching 12. After an excellent salad in a Lebonese restaurant I decided to eat more salads. In the subsequent years my white cell count remained about 12. Then came the pandemic, I missed my blood test and grew a little bored with salads. Early this year I had a blood test and my white cell count was 15! In the same period I had what I thought was a cold sore. However it persisted and eventually in February it was diagnosed as Mouth Cancer. To treat this I was scheduled for plastic surgery. By now I was back on a modified salad diet. Modified to avoid boredom and making it easier to keep for a day or two, I now mixed 15 salad ingredients in a bowl (typical recipe below) and I then blended it, creating a pate, which I take as a generous helping on a piece of toast (trying to have a normal salad quantity). Now back on my diet the ‘cold sore’ shrunk and went passive. Had I cured myself? I had the operation in June and a biopsy revealed that I was free of mouth cancer. Apart from the plastic surgery to remove the ‘cold sore’ I have received no medical treatments for my cancers. I am 91 years old and not on any prescriptive medicine. I exercise regularly swimming 4 days a week. Typical recipe:- Apple vinegar, shallot, olive oil, pickled garlic, sauerkraut, beetroot, fennel, mushroom, walnut, wheat germ, seed salad, mixed dried fruit, grated carrot, celery. I normally also eat fruit as a desert with my meals. I think this is in essence 15 vegetables a day instead of the usual recommended 5. I enjoy eating this pate. I have just rejoined this group.

Welcome back Dovecot! Good to see someone in their 90s interested in improving their health. Great news about your mouth cancer.

With respect to your WBC changes, reporting the Absolute Lymphocyte Count (ALC), which reports the CLL cells along with healthy lymphocytes, is a much more accurate way of monitoring the amount of CLL in your blood than the WBC. The WBC also includes neutrophils (which can vary between 2 and 8) as well as monocytes, eosinophils and basophils. Changes in any of these as well as your CLL cell count can change your WBC significantly when it's as low as yours, so this along with the natural variation in your lymphocyte count, make it impossible to know whether the amount of CLL in your blood has improved or not.

Thanks for sharing your good news.

It’s great that you have rejoined this group. It is so lovely to hear your positive story, and amazing that you are swimming as often as you do… it ( along with your brilliant intake of fruit and vegetables) is obviously suiting you well.

Keep up the good work and stay safe,

Great news - I think eating veg will have many other health giving and wellness supporting benifits. Personally I love veg - including all in your list.

Does the beetroot make your urine go red? It does mine!

Physical activity is the key to longevity.

Long may you enjoy yours!

Hi Jig,Thank you for your email. In writing my block I was constrained by not wanting it to be too lone. I would however like to say that I am experimenting with the recipe to see how I can make have a variety of tastes. I was particularly successful with a gazpacho recipe I got off the internet : ½ a tin of tomatoes (tinned tomatoes have not been messed about with, to improve their shelf life), plus and equal volume of the pate, with a teaspoon of worcestershire sauce. Very good served cold on a hot day. I intend to experiment with caraway seed, cinnamon and nutmeg,
