Muscle and Joint Pain
Does the side effect of muscle and joint pain ... - CLL Support
Does the side effect of muscle and joint pain with Acalabrutnib subside? I have been on Acalanrutnib for 3+months and now pain.
Acalabrutinib is a second generation BTK inhibitor, with a lower side effect profile than Ibrutinib, the first approved BTK inhibitor, for which we are approaching 10 years of patient data. A long term study of Ibrutinib found that with the exception of cardiovascular side effects, the incidence/severity of side effects reduced over time. I expect we will see the same pattern in all BTK inhibitor drugs, of which there are now over 10 approved or in trial. As you can read, elsewhere in this community, for some on these drugs, side effects can be serious enough to result in exploring a reduction in the dose or even switching medication, but that should only be done in discussion with your specialist. It's particularly important to stay on the drug until your CLL is under control, because going off the drug can result in a rapid flare up of CLL in some of us. There are several posts on Ibrutinib in our Pinned Post section, with the information on those posts expected to be mostly relevant to other BTKi drugs like Acalabrutinib. I have the same question
Many people say it goes away but I found it never went away. I was very fortunate my doctor switched me to Zanubrutinib.
It may eventually go away or significantly reduce. If not, ask your oncologist if a half standard dose might help and still control CLL.
