I am getting ready to start treatment and am having a port put in for the infusions and blood work. After I finish the treatments will they remove the port or leave it in?

Depends... some patients have them for extended periods... ports require flushing and heparinization every 4 weeks on average, most patients want them out when no longer needed.

Ok thanks. My doc just inundated me with tons of information and of course all my questions came after I left his office!

I think many of us will recognise the 'Oh I forgot to ask' syndrome J-girl, as well as needing time to assimilate all the information.

Having the port, will save you many painful, hunting for the vein in your hands experiences.

Looking forward to your mail telling us about post treatment improvement.

Best wishes
