Hi can someone please give me advice,... - Children's Liver ...
Hi can someone please give me advice, on coming in to contact the chickenpox after having Kasai? Is there risk/something you have to do?

My boy had chicken pox at three years old- he had only had Kasai then. I don't think there are any extra issues but obviously you'll be vigilant because you're asking! Let's hope if it happens it's not too bad but it is best to get it over with.
My boy had his kasai in May. I was so worried as he has a sister (2 and half years) who attends nursery. Some children at nursery had chicken pox so we kept her off for some time. I just didn't want Vin getting chickenpox this soon after his operation. It is supposed to be most common in the spring to summer months but that's not to say he couldn't get it now.
When did your child have kasai?
Thankyou for your reply,i contacted liver direct at Birmingham's Children's and there is no risks are nothing different I should do than if any of my other children got the chickenpox. Will just have to wait now and see if he get them !!!!!!
There is different procedure if you are on transplant list or have had a transplant.
Jack had Kasai in January, and is doing amazing since :-). Were did you have your wee boys Kasai?
He had his Kasai at Leeds. Did your boy have any other complications? Are all his blood levels normal now?
My boys bloods are improving they are coming down but liver enzymes still raised. He is putting on lots of weight with no other supplements.
No he had no other complications apart from reflux he is doing amazing his billyrubin is normal enzymes are well down but still not normal but definitely well down so we r going in the right direction. My wee boy had to go on to infatrini milk to gain weight (think it was more down to his reflux) he is still on it, I meet dietician on 13th December but I would say she will take him of it then he is wearing 12-18month clothes and he's 11months so isn't under weight now eating and in to everything. (So good to see)!!!
We were told that enzymes will vary for 6months post Kasai. That's fantastic that all his bloods are coming down and he's gaining weight without supplements all a good sign and going in the right direction
It's such a worrying anxious time isn't it?
Yeah really worrying! Trying to stay positive but you can't ignore some of the sad stories. I hope our boys continue to move in the right direction and lead perfectly 'normal' lives. My boy is 5 months and wearing 12-18 month clothing he's a big one.
We going for the flu jab in a month also poor soul always seem to be having jabs at the minute xx
