Hi there

My son had a transplant last June at 7 months old and is now really lovely and well. It had changed our world in the most fantastic way. He is well and fat and lovely! The best advise re packing is you don't need much. Alex had a little gown on for about a week for easy access and then he was mostly in baggy t-shirts. He didn't really get dressed until we went home! You need all your bits and bobs, especially if there isn't a washing machine on the ward. We took a mobile for the cot which was really helpful. Lovely soft blankets that smell of home seemed to comfort as well.

Good luck and keep strong

Hi lovely,

Fingers crossed you get the call soon :) my Owen was a year old when he had his transplant and I took a sewing project in with me to keep my fingers busy and my favourite quilt from home as well as lots of snacks that my husband and I both love, and photos of our daughter and family and friends to pop around the room and cot, mobile. Phone, laptop etc chargers and a few special toys or Owen. I had a basic bag packed and a list of what to grab when the call came. (DVD box set to watch in those wee small hours post transplant when you are back on the ward) as Kelly said easy access clothes for your princess. Please remember when the time comes that you need to eat and drink because you are so precious too, you are amazing ( and before you know it you may find yourself with a three year old who never stops and is a pure bundle of energy :) Fleur xxx

My daughter had her transplant aged 8 and a half months. As Kelly said to begin with the babies are in little gowns or a nappy. I (by accident) had some baby grows with me from mothercare that fastened down the side. These were great for when my little girl still had the drain coming from her side as the tube could easily come out from the her clothes. I think it came from her right side (but check with your transplant co-ordinator). Little dresses are good too, as I found trouser waste bands can irritate the stitches. We took some home made frozen meals with us too that could be re-heated in the microwave on the ward. Know what you are going to put on if you get your phone call in the middle of the night. I'm sure arriving at the hospital in your pj's wouldn't be a problem, but the ambulance can be a bit cold!!! Once your daughter has had her operation and is on PICU, and everying is ok, there's not much you can do so make sure you and your other half go out and have a meal together. Once you get on the main ward it gets a bit busier. All the best. Our little girl is just about to start school in September, she if full of energy, loud and a real girlie girl, just like her friends. xx

Hello. My boy's just been listed too so this is all really useful! As well as a few clothes etc I've put some money in the hospital bag so we're not scrabbling around for cash for chocolate/coffee! I've bought and packed a "special" bag for little brother in case he has to stay anywhere for a couple of days. You just never know, do you?
