Good Morning all

I have been recommended this forum by my GP and thought I would introduce myself.

I had a Heart attack in December and now require a triple bypass that is due in around six weeks.

At the time of my MI My bloods were all very high due to hereditary issues and if I am honest a very bad lifestyle.

I have turned my lifestyle around and run five miles a day and go to the gym 3 times a week in preparation to be as fit as possible before my op.

I would greatly appreciate any information or advice on the initial recovery after the bypass.

Thanks in advance.

Exercise is great but be careful, don't think that that is the only way to get well. The operation is the start not the end - your lifestyle is the most important - change it!!!!! Cut down on the alcohol, stop smoking, take up walking or light running (you are not training for the Olympics!) and eat at least five helpings of fruit and vegetables a day. Cut down on sugars - the worst thing we can put in our bodies - and eat a more natural diet with a balance leaning towards proteins and cut down on the carbs.

Good luck with your operation and keep in touch. Let us know how you do.

Hi, I am 8 weeks into my recovery im a 34year old female it has been a good recovery although i have found it frustrating not being able to do everything i used to do. Like you i was very fit prior to the op and have not done much exercise since, the main issue for me is still the chest pain, it is still with me if i do anything which moves the top half of my body to much i really feel the pain the following day.

I am now off the painkillers as had a lot of side effects,

If you have any direct questions just let me know and if i can help i will?

Good luck

Jo

My husband had a triple bypass and heart valve replacement last June. He received quite a lot of guidance as to how he would feel during the first 6 weeks after the operation. This was quite consoling as he was quite emotional for a while as the leaflet suggested he might be. Physically he really had no problems at all. He healed up really well almost within a week. He could walk without stopping for breath and we both felt he had been given another chance. He is now more sensible over food and exercises fairly regularly. No two people are the same, however, so you might have a different experience but you have every reason to be optimistic I think. Good luck and enjoy your new life!
