Very sad news and hope he has a speedy recovery. On Twitter many people are expressing shock about him being only 53. BBC report provides figures from US where 1 in every 5 strokes is occuring in person under age of 55. Numbers of younger stroke sufferers rising too in UK possibly related to problems of obesity, diabetes and high cholesterol. Read more about this at bbc.co.uk/news/health-19897584

Very sad news about Andrew Marr at only 53. Nobody can say anything harbour his weight and I think he is reasonably fit so that should help his complete recovery. I would like to wish him all the best and hope he takes the time required to return to complete himself before he returns to his very stressful life.

Of course, we are only partially aware of his lifestyle! He could have underlying health problems we are unaware of. His age may be his salvation! We wish him all the very best, and to all those who have had strokes and are recovering.

I had a Heart attack at 53, but it could just as easily been a stroke, I have Hughes syndrome (sticky blood)

Nobody would know from the outside what's wrong with me. Hughes syndrome is becoming more recognised now, 1 in 4 people who have blood blood clotting event under the age of 40 probably have it. I think that's right as Hughes syndrome has also affected my memory, caused me to have miscarriages, still births and Dvt and probably Epilepsy

I had a Cholesterol of about 7 but this wasn't the reason for my Heart attack it was caused by a blood clot cutting off some of the blood supply.

I am now treated with simvastatin as my cholesterol problem is family related and Warfarin, with my target inr to be 3.5 which also improved some of my brain fog.

To have a diagnoses for this condition is simple blood test.

Really feel sorry for Andrew Marr having a stroke is awful, I dread it.
